Default Undersubscribed part 2

Well here we go again. I don't want any undersubscribed deer tags, but will do a dry run just to see if I can, as I will be trying for a moose on Wednsday. Hope system works today.

EDIT... Opps, Moose is Tuesday.

Once you are logged into your file on RELM where do you click to try and buy an undersubscribed tag? I tried both the "Draw" page and the "Purchase licence" page but no undersubscribed choices appeared.
I'm the chits at this computer stuff. Very frustrating. IMG_0574.jpg

Under subscribed is on the top row, not on the left where the draws are. I hope this isn't too late. Good luck

What Is the deal with priority and undersubscribed tags? If one were to try for one does that bring your priority back to zero for that critter?

Tried for my zone, 29 tags went fast, by the time it refreshed, they were gone. Tried a couple other northern zones too as back up/new area. Gone.

It's a general deer and elk kinda scouting year for us. I like those. See some new country or visit some old haunts. Still got yummy Suffield elk in the freezer so a deer or two for sausage etc would be just right.

The goal is the boys first animal. He pretty much gave up his chances at one last year coming with me south for the Elk hunt in Nov - Dec.

All but one WMU sold out in less then eight minutes. Wow!

But there are still undersubscribed deer licenses left in several WMUs.

I guess Moose must be more popular then Deer.

Well I sure was way too optimistic that I'd get one of the two 426 moose tags! These tags disappear lightning fast good luck to those that did get one. I'm in the same boat as Sooner. Still have a bit of tastey suffield elk in the freezer and going to see if I can get my 12 year old his first deer....

I'm thinking a lot of people value the widespread general deer tags which give flexibility and potentially supplementals as well.

A reminder :

http://albertaregulations.ca/pdfs/hu...Draw-Rules.pdf

Quote:
Normal licence restrictions apply regarding licence combinations and eligibility, refer to pages 49 to 52. For example, if you were drawn for an Antlerless Mule Deer Special Licence, you cannot obtain another Antlerless Mule Deer Special Licence through the undersubscribed process.

A hunter does not have to apply in the draw in order to be eligible to obtain an undersubscribed special licence.

Draw priorities will not be affected by the acquisition of undersubscribed special licences.

Some special licences may be issued with more than one tag in specific WMUs.

The site was definitely a bit slower but all seemed to work ok. For me, by the time my screen re-freshed with the available tags my buddy had already been in and checked out. I got the tag I was looking for but man do these things ever go fast now.

I appreciate that Alberta Relm actually listened to the 'species per day suggestions' and this seems like a more orderly way of managing the volume.

Now its up to us to fill the tags! Good luck to all.

I will continue to lobby that if you get a draw (priority or undersubscribed) you are charged for the species tag. That will force antis to have a bit more cash to shell out if they are gaming and it might also make people look at a map before they put in.

I am guessing 516 was even faster for the 26 tags. I was ready before 9, 1 min in & i couldn't refresh and when it did, 516 was off the list.

I remember when i first started taking the US draws there, there would be a ton left and not all would be grabbed.

Huh, I got my 542 tag slick as snot, had no idea how lucky I must have been to get it till just now. Usually its been just a matter of actually wanting one in that zone as the hunting is typically brutal.

You mean that in over a week (you had the draw on the 16th for half an hour), you didn't look at the wmu map to see where you were potentially headed?
Is that normal for guys?
The first thing I did after I looked at the list was to see where these zones were and then hit up Google Earth to see if I was interested.

THIS!!! ^^
Absolutely agree,if you claim a tag through either the regular draw or undersubscribed, you should be forced to pay for it or suffer some form of sanctions(banned from draws for X years?)
Perhaps 30 days would be appropriate period to buy regular draw tags, then they are forfeited to the undersubscribed pool?
Undersubscribed tags should be paid for immediately,no more of this "reserving a tag" nonsense,as far too many I'm sure go unpurchased.
"Oh I didn't know it was so far away"
"Oh I got my elk in Sept so I didn't buy my undersubscribed Nov.moose tag that I reserved."

If you're not gonna buy the damn tag, leave it for somebody that actually will, has done their homework beforehand, and knows exactly the effort required to hunt that zone BEFORE they allow their greed to steal the opportunity out from under somebody that will actually hunt that tag.

Requiring undersubscribed tags to be paid for immediately should be a pretty easy sell to Notley's Merry band of tax grabbers, considering the province is losing untold tens of thousands of dollar$ to reserved tags that go unpurchased every year.
