Default MONSTER First Catch!

Hey Everyone!

I bought my first rig in March. Since then, I have watched approximately ten hours of YouTube tutorials, read multiple blogs/forums/etc., bought five different leaders, five different tippets, and multiple nymphs. I have driven for approximately seven hours to various locations and walked approximately 70kms.

On Saturday I decided to give the nymphs a break and try streamers. Bow River Troutfitters was finally open (I live downtown), so I went over and bought a 10ft #6 sinking tip leader, 3x flurocarbon tippet, and a handful of zonkers and muddler minnows.

Yesterday I attached the leader to my fly line with a loop-to-loop knot, attached 16 inches of tippet to the leader with a kreh loop, attached a zonker with a kreh loop, and waited for the rain to stop.

Around 7:30 p.m. I headed out to hit a spot near the Centre Street Bridge and landed these bad boys! Wetted my hands before touching them and released without issue. A little bleeding on the smaller one, but they both confidently swam away as soon as their mouths touched the water. I am investing in a net TODAY!

Here is the zonker, for those of you who are interested!

Default Right on

The one thing I love about fishing is no matter how many fish you catch the excitement is still there. Appreciate the right up for those of us learning the bow.

Thumbs up New Fisher

Great start....... one thing you may want to do in the future is take your picture in the water ie keep them wet if you keep a fish out of water his chances of survival go down with each second...... easy way to equate this is imagine putting your head under water for thirty seconds or longer ..... you would happy to get your head back out ..... welcome to the ranks .... its a special fishery lets keep it healthy ....... this is a good article to read https://www.sciencedirect.com/scienc...133?via%3Dihub

Absolutely. I did the best I could under the circumstances and returned them both to the water in less than 15 seconds. Barbless hook, as short a fight as possible, wet hands, and gentle release. I will keep everyone in the water when I have a net!

Nice Job, the look on your face says it all. Hate to tell you this, but fly fishing is addicting lol.... the tug is the drug, and it looks like you are now hooked, pardon the pun.

Nice fish for the first couple. You are defiantly hooked on this sport. Fished the Bow quite a bit when I lived out in Alberta and had a riot. Caught a ton of fish 20 to 26 inches and wouldn't you know it all on streamers.
