Yeah I think I'll be entering with a couple of friends. Sounds like a good time and the forecast looks like a beauty day.

EDIT: OOPS I mean for this year obviously...on the 14th.

Hurry up you are almost late for last years derby!
Did my favorite canal ever freeze? had smoked whitefish again last weekend so at this rate freezer burn will not be a concern!

Rob the minute the wind stopped blowing Friday it froze over, lots of dead whites all over the canal now. funny thing is the lakes opening up as the canal freezes. I managed to shoot some more before it ended though, ate all the first ones already.

I do believe that there was not one fish caught last year in this derby, so I was told by the people that run it. As a resident of Chestermere for 36 years, the fishing in this lake has declined greatly in recent years. It has probably been 4-5 years since I have caught a legal sized pike (63cm). Should be good weather for the derby though, I think it was -25C or colder last year for it.

Thanks for your post

are you aware of any of the fine details of the event?

There does not seem to be any posted on the event websites, aside from the date and time.

Cheers

I don't know any detail BeeGuy, I have never entered into this derby before. I do believe it is only the second or third year they have run it. If there are no details other than date or time on their website, it would indicate to me that they are not very organized, just my opinion though

Ya that certainly seems the case.

The pancake breakfast really has me hooked though.

I think myself and another member will be there, anyone else interested shoot me a pm and we can meet on the ice and at least shoot the **** for a few hours if nothing else.

The fishing derby at Chestermere has been canceled. I talked to the city hall a few hours ago and they said the ice was not stable enough.

There goes that fun...
