I can think of a few places, but I'm not certain I'd be carrying it in the boat. Most likely he was using it as camp protection, and didn't want to leave it back at camp...

Nope. The fishing trip were we caught the brookies was in September. We had a gun because this lake is quite remote and requires a long hike. Due to the large amount of fresh cougar and bear tracks we decided we weren't leaving the gun back at camp. And no it isn't Winchell lake.

i'd happily have a side arm on my hip in most of the country i fish in. now, if only that was permitted. you never know when you may need a rabbit for shore lunch. the 45-70 over the shoulder and a fly rod in hand can be cumbersome.
