Personally I like Wrangler DuraTrac. We have them on our delivery trucks that see 60% gravel/mud. Liked them so much I bought some for my newer(09 2500) truck and my sons(97 1500) truck. As with a lug design, they aren't the greatest on ice, but you only get ice a few times per year.
They perform great in snow and mud. They are also rated for gravel. I actually bought a little smaller tire to get 10 ply as the grader steel tends to eat them up here. Every little helps. The sales pitch i got (didn't need anyway) was that Goodyear sent some engineers up to the oilfields on Northern Alberta to see why their tires were coming apart. Redesigned them into the DuraTrac's. Could be bull but I've logged over +50K's and didn't hesitate to head out to a gasplant 70 km back in the bush in -35C temps for a delivery.
If i didn't like them, I sure wouldn't have put them on my son's truck.
We have a lot of gravel up here, but they don't howl on the highway as some mud tires like to do. I've made several trips to Edm with these on. I know if I put her in the ditch, I could most likely drive it back out. (Done it before).
Research what kind of roads you'll be driving, weather conditions, ect and buy tires for the worst of them. That's when you'll really need them.

Wrangler Dura tracs are a phenomenal tire!
I would also look at the general grabber AT/2

I've ran everything from mud terrains to drag radials. you sound like you spend 95% of your time on the road. I def prefer to have a quiet tire that rides well and I bring chains for when things get nasty.
Look at some of the less aggressive all terrains
Hankook is probably my favorite tire manufacturer Premium quality tires, and reasonable prices. their A/T tire is great on road and good enough on those nasty gravel roads to keep you between the ditches. If things get really bad just chain up..

My 2 cents.

Have a look at Cooper tires while you're comparing.

Have a look at Goodyear wrangler authorities from Walmart. They are a very good tire for a very reasonable price. My buddy put them on his 2011 dodge half tonne and they have been on his truck for two years now. They are similar to the dura track.

Another vote for the DuraTracs. We been running them on 1500 and 2500HD and Ford F150 since they been out. GREAT TIRE. Getting between 85-110K. We run 60/40 to 50/50 asphalt/gravel.
These are the only tire we will run now.

They can be a great winter tire if you stud them when new. I find the tires great winter driving.

I have 70K on my 2500HD and should get another 20K....which will put me into September.

I run Cooper Discoverer S/T studded in the winter and Kelly Safari in the summer. Both great tires for me.

The Coopers are the best winter tire ive ever used . Awesome traction on snow and ice

I have these. I love them. Quiet on the road, and grip well off-road and in winter conditions.
