Default 2018 Elk Hunt

Just got back from an elk hunting trip that I won’t forget soon. We have shot a bunch of elk in this area over the years but never anything like this.
Started off with a nice meat moose on the first night of the trip. But the elk sign wasn’t as plentiful as we were hoping for. Looked around the usual spots for a few days with not a lot of hope and only a few cow sightings. Finally got a 2x2 to call a bit after a couple days of no elk talking.

We got an idea to try an area we hadn’t really tried before and after a bit of calling had a real unique and good sized 6x4 on the ground. Got real lucky with this one as he died with his head over the breaks into a creek that would have added hours to getting him out.

The next morning tried another new spot about a mile away from where we shot the first one and called in and killed a real nice 6x7.

They weren’t calling a bunch but when we got in on them they did make some noise.

Sometimes you get lucky.

Default Nice Bull!

Congrats! That 4x6 sure had a strange antler on his right.

You put yourself in the position to be lucky... way to seal the deal.

Excellent work fellas! I wouldn't have worried much about the bull dropping down the bank. The dude in the yellow suspenders looks like he could carry an elk out whole!

And yes, the one sure does have a curious right antler. It looks like it may have covered his eye or at least hindered the eye sight?

thatd be great, I’d also like coffee on my arrival, and it’d be great if you had a gun I could borrow, and I have a bum knee, so packing is out of the question.

Not looking for a handout, just curious.
But I’ll take my lumps.
Still darn nice bulls!

No lumps required. You forgot the cuban cigars, pricey scotch and dancing girls tho...which should get you lumps.

Good job guys,
We're they full bugling still, or chuckling, or we're u cow calling?
I'm up in Valleyview area now and with the nice weather settling in, wondering if they will still come to a bugle.
In the past, Oct 12 is the latest I've heard them bugling.

TBark
