Default Upland hunting - packing water for the dogs

Hey guys,

For those of you that upland hunt with your dogs, how are you packing water in the field with you?

Currently I toss a bottle of water and a collapsible bowl in the game pouch on my vest. It works. But I’m wondering if there is a better setup? Starting to look at hydration packs.

So what is everybody else using?

Why not let the dogs carry their own water? A slim profile dog pack and a dog could pack a gallon of water.

The one I’ve got holds about 600ml of water and the “bowl” is about as long as the bottle plus wraps around and folds up alongside the bottle. When I unfold the bowl it opens a valve and with a squeeze of the bottle it’ll fill the bowl. I’m not sure what it’s called and I’m at work so can’t check anyway but it’s pretty slick.

I pack a water bottle from hockey. He drinks well but tend to spill a lot. Keep a bowl at truck and let him water well when we get back to it.

I pack four to six of the smaller water bottles in my vest, and my dog drinks from the bottles.

Old apple juice jug hung from the saddle or in the box of the pick up.

Throw dishes out and teach them to drink as you pour.

I’ve never found the need to carry water in the field unless it’s hot. I find most people who carry water for their dogs have dogs that come back for water too much.

I never carry water... Everywhere i hunt for upland birds has a water source of some kind. When i have brought water for my dog he never drinks it as he is more focused on the hunting than for waiting on me to pour him water. I pretty much gave up on it.
