Default retention 110 Accubond x 257WBY

57.3 grains retention from a 110 Accubond out of 257WBY @ 3400fps
Hit the whitetail buck @ 110 yards in the base of the neck and found the bullet in the backstrap with zero meat damage
Dropped the animal in its tracks

My thoughts are that ... the longer the distance ...the higher the retention ?
So, considering the short distance in my photo, the bullet performed very well.

I chose the bullet for its incredible accuracy with RL22 in my Tikka 695 Deluxe and RKS barrel.

This rifle with the same load has knocked down 4 cow elk todate.

I use a 110 accubond in my Tikka 257wby. Last whitetail I shot was around 250 yards and weighed 73gr. After seeing how they perform I wouldn’t hesitate to use it on elk or moose. I did use it on 1 moose but it wasn’t a good test because it was 40 yards in the head.

okay - your experience confirms exactly what I was suggesting... which is that a little more distance will provide a higher retention. Thanks for the info.

Thumbs up Nosler bullets

I got my whitey this year with a 150 grain nosler ballistic tip from a 7mmSTW at around 120 yards and it disintegrated inside the cavity as there was just bits and pieces of bullet when cleaning it out....lung shot and the buck folded in his tracks.

Nice. I'm currently shooting hornady 90 gr gmx out of factory loaded 257wby ammo but once I'm done those I've got to decide on either accubonds or ttsx bullets to reload.

Unless you have a supply of accubonds the ttsx will probably be easier to find.

The only animal I ever took with my 257 WM was an antelope at 327 yards with a 110 ELDX bullet @ 3250 FPS, quartering towards and I hit him about the 2nd rib back, the bullet came out just ahead of the back leg on the far side so no recovery to see how it preformed, but one very dead antelope so it did it's job.

Recovering bullets from thin skinned animals isn't always possible.
The high velocity and small grain bullets make it more difficult.

Why would those things make it more difficult?

How do you find a bullet in the back straps with “zero” meat damage?

Not even a question, ttsx hands down! IMO.

Most high velocity bullets will Zip through a thin skinned animal ...but depends on the distance. I'm not here to educate people - just sharing my thoughts

We have bullets zipping through and bullets fragmenting all because of high velocity apparently.

Easy enough to find online. About as easy as TTSX
