Question on Elk 3 point minimum
I went bow hunting for Elk last year in a Bow only season with with both the cow and 3 point bull seasons open. I set up on the transition from a wooded area to an oat field and had a Bull Elk walk out and stand broadside at 10 yards. I was at full draw, but couldn't count more than 2 points. I didn't shoot, thinking he was not legal, and the Bull eventually walked off.
I told this story to a hunting buddy of mine last night and he said that any Elk is legal to shoot in a bow only season. I couldn't believe it. I re-read the regulations and couldn't find anything to support his claim. His point was that you can shoot a bull, cow or calf moose in bow only season when it is open for both bull and cow, so why not the same for Elk?
What do you think?
