Default Wife's cousin had a terrible hunting accident

My wife's cousin Chris was out elk hunting this month and while he was moving through the bush, an arrow popped out of his quiver, and he ended up walked into it or tripping onto it and it punched through his leg. He got medevac'd to Grand Prairie then to Calgary for multiple surgeries. It's not clear if he will get keep his leg or not right now. Either way he has a long road to recovery ahead of him.

At the very least, read this story and keep it as a reminder to stay safe out there and keep your eyes peeled for stuff like a loose arrow, things happen in the blink of an eye.

Anyone who would like to help a great guy and his family out can check out the link for more details.

The old adage of "bad things happen to good people" holds true in this situation.

Stay safe out there everyone.

Cheers,

Very unfortunate accident, and as said, things can happen in the blink of an eye. Hopefully he will recover from it. He was fortunate to have immediate care and quick transport. I know someone who lost an eye when he drew bow and released, but didn't realise a small branch got in his string/cables as he turned to follow a moose. It drove part of the branch into his eye. Hunting can be very hazardous.

That's a terribly random accident to have out hunting. I sure hope he does not have any life long issues from this. Stay strong buddy!!!!

Did this happen close to GP, maybe in the Saddle Hills? Just curious as we'd heard something about a hunter getting hurt but no details. I was out there yesterday helping a friend who got a bull elk there in the morning, was a nasty retrieval on a hot day.

It was near GP, but not sure about exactly where.

Probably the same situation we heard about then. Looks like the GoFundMe is rolling along. I passed it on to my friends as well. Wishing him a speedy recovery. TC

Ouch!
Be safe out there, let people know where you intend to hunt when going solo.

Heard about this on FB. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

I'm going to share this with my kids as an example of why they need to be extra careful with their bows.

Just thought I would send an update.

Chris is back home to recover finally. 8 surgeries total.

He got to keep his leg, and has taken a few steps with the physio therapist.

Thanks to everyone for the kinds words and donations to help his family weather what will be a long road to recovery.

This is great news. It may be a long road ahead but being surrounded by family during his healing in his own home will hopefully help! Recovery will no doubt be a process for everyone. Stay positive and thanks for the update!
