Rifle scopes
What power is the hunting scope you use on your rifle. Is it 3x9 or 5x12 or some other variation. Wondering what scope is the best all around is 5 magnification to high to start for a rifle used in bush or is three better. Curious what others use thx.

I use open express sights but keep a 6X Leupold in my pack in case I have a long shot.
If the animal is that far away I have time to attach the scope and shoot it.

I use a 4x and a 3.5x10 and haven't had any problems. (Granted the 3.5x10 is new this year so we'll see how it goes. So far so good)

I have a 3X9, a straight 4X, and a straight 6X on the 3 rifles I currently use for big game hunting.

3 - 15 x 42
3 -5 in bush up to 15 for longer shots
Can't stand those giant objective lenses, makes the rifle look weird imo.

Let's see;
1-3/4-5x(1)
2-7x(1)
3-9x(2)
2.5-10x(1)
3.5-10x(1)
4-12x(2)
4-16x(1)
2.5-16x(1)
6-24x(1)
6-18x(2)
4x(1)
0x (peep sight)(2)
Yup that's it for hunting rifles, rimfire's and dedicated target stuff left out.

Rifle scopes today have way to much magnification. I believe most guys think they are military snipers, not moose and elk hunters. A 2x6 power scope would be perfect. Most of us cannot hit anything past a distance where we would need anything more than 6 power. Also all you see is fur at 7-10 power, one does not know if you are shooting animal in boiler or in the ass.

3-9x for me. Anything too close, I can just shoot by line-of-sight over the barrel and anything requiring more than 9x I really shouldn't be shooting in the first place, in all probability.

Not all of us hunt up close country. Not all of us have that much up close country to hunt.

2.5-8x36 vx3i
2-12x42 vx6
Had a Nightforce 2.5-10x 44 liked it but traded it for a nice Browing over and under.
In my opinion the Swarovski Z6 1.7-10x44 is the perfect hunting scope for big game and my kind of hunting...one day I'll have one.

Swarovski z3 3-9x36
Leupold vx3 2.5-8x36
Zeiss hd5 3-15x42
I found anything over 9 power needs parallax adjustment, I also have never shot at game farther than 360 yards. It was a coyote and I got him, all other big game has been 320 yards at the farthest.
