it was a train. and the hole was caused by a chain link fence.

Close, got stuck in the chain link by the tracks and died...

I don't believe it was hit by the train, no one really knows but I would assume there would have been rash or broken antlers proving he tumbled before his demise.

actually, nobody was there to say for sure. the old guy that stepped forward that was there that day decided the train must have hit it and it got stuck under the fence. whichever....the hole that so many said had to be from a poachers 22 bullet turned out to be from the bottom wire on the chain link.

from this link......

http://www.facebook.com/notes/legend...y/394407080833

comes this quote....

The animal had been dead for a week or so, from the looks of it, and he was huge. He looked like he weight 300 or 400 pounds. He's obviously been hit by a train."

There is a lot of speculation on this monarch, a few of us have discussed the lack of evidence that indeed his demise was train related..

You would think there would be some signs of tine damage if there was a train involved... How did the buck become entangle in the chain link to create the famous "whole" ?

nobody will ever know for sure the cause of death. common sense says that laying beside the tracks would make the train most likely....but anything is possible.

to be honest, i have all the NAW mags. im know sled has read em all too and wont mind this. can i suggest another question to crown another winner?

who killed the highest GROSSING typical whitetail ever and what was the GROSS score. hint....its much higher than hansons.
