Default Trolling motor

I have a 17’ crest liner boat and want to put an electric trolling motor on the front of it. Can anybody give me some suggestions on what would work well for that?

Go at least 80lb Thrust.

Terrova Ipilot would be a good choice. Or Ipilot link, connects to humminbird finders.

+1 for an 80lbs thrust minimum. Less thrust will move your boat, but more thrust also equals longer battery life.

I had a 12v 55lbs minkotta Terrova on my 1650 crestliner originally but I moved up to a 24v 80lbs a few years later. No regrets. Make sure u get a 60 inch shaft too

this ^^^^^^ or an ulterra , is what i use on a 19 foot crest liner . wish i had it when i bought the boat , auto deploy and stow, and anchor lock , what a great feature for fishing cold lake no more pulling up anchors in 150 feet of water.

I believe minkotta ultera r North of 4K I believe along with others such as Garmin and Lowrance. Motorguide xi5 is about 2-2.5k. Just make sure you do your homework before u buy. Too many sales people do not know their product lines.

had 250 feet of rope when we fished lake minnenwanka every weekend, good work out kept you warm on those cold days pulling the anchor.

It depends on the weight etc of your boat. If you have the boat that can carry motors at 90hp and above etc then i would consider a higher thrust like the 80 pound etc. But if yours is a boat that maxes out at a 60hp engine you could get away with a 55 pound if you wanted...

Good luck!

If you can afford it get a unit with spotlock. i have a 16 ft crestliner that i bought with a 55 lb trolling motor. Last year i upgraded to an 80 lb unit with spotlock. Not cheap but the difference fishing is like night and day. i had plans of mounting the motor on my salmon boat to use when halibut fishing to save the hassle and risk of anchoring. 80 lb on a 16 ft boat is probably overkill but there was not a big cost in going with the larger motor.
