Started a new lure, figured a shorthead redhorse would be interesting to the pike, with their bright red fins.

took the new hunka wood out today to check out the action. didnt hang a hook on it but there werent many fish around anyways . I didnt put spread dorsals on this one and I still like the swim/diving action. colors arent perfect but I just used what I had. https://youtu.be/rhX549VSWxw long 5 minute boring video of testing it out. I did catch a perch so no skunk for me, got it on the Kamooki lure Ive been catching lots of fish on this season

Another great carving. It looks real enough. Must p*ss of the fish when they figure out it's just a piece of wood. The look on that fishes face...

thought Id try a different species, one that doesnt have too many lures patterned after it. that Ive seen, anyways

these things seem to be an addiction, soon as I finish 1 Im itching to start another!! could be the sawdust in my sweats I guess, but whatever I am really enjoying working with wood instead of steel and stone for a change! I think eventually Im going to do one like this with a moving tail, still learning though.

was thinking I should do a burb painted like wonderbread, the fish could chew on it for years and it would never go bad!

I think a joint project could be fun but I have to finish up a few present lure designs first. If I take on too much things get forgotten. Work gets in the way of projects is the problem lol

Anything white treats me well so wonder bread style paint job could be good

I didnt fish since it was insanely foggy today so I managed to finish my baby burb, hopefully the fog is gone inside and outside tomorrow and I can drop it in the lake. I have enough weight in it to sink it but the tail stands pretty much straight up on the bottom so its going to dance nice for me. or not I dont care I like this one!. Always wanted to try a salamander and a leopard frog for pike so I may do one of each so I can do it legally

and I guess maybe a mouse too. I have a plan for them, maybe, probably.

finished a salamander, Im fully expecting it to get bit in half but thats half the fun if it does happen, guess I will have to drop it in the lake and see

wasnt sure on a tail but I think the big worm should do the trick and easy to replace if it gets ripped off. May try a frog next, or a different bait fish I dont know yet. still really enjoying the whittling!

decided to do a herring, still havent tested a couple, we have so much fog I cant even see the neighbors house right now, yet again! Hopefully its gone before the ice! started on a goldeye, should be fun.

Thank you. learning as I go and having a great time doing it. BTW cut safety gloves work for slices but you may not want to poke your hand with a pointed knife.

got a first varathane coat on my goldeye, couple more to go then maybe test it and some other stuff tomorrow. I decided to try foil on this one since Goldeye are pure chrome, I tried embossing it but I smoothed that out when I installed it so I tried doing the scales with a blunt pencil and I kinda like the way it turned out, I might do a trout for jigging this size and try it on that too, but I keep getting too many ideas at once

thought Id try foiling a new lake white. I really like how this turns out. Im thinking maybe some smaller sizes now, maybe 4 inches or so since I had walleye checking out the herring a lot maybe I will give them something more bite size. Still experimenting and having fun doing it

I did a smaller whitefish then a spottail shiner and a rainbow. tried the rainbow yesterday and someone ate a bunch of paint off it but it was hiding in the weeds so I didnt see the fish, I think it was a big perch or a very small pike. Im finding Newell very slow right now too hopefully the ice lasts til mid March!
