The rifle is a M700 Remington, but I also didn't catch caliber info.

Not a fan of the .454Casull either but that's not important.

So putting all the above aside, this video is exactly why the ability to carry a big bore handgun should be there for all hunters.
There is a bunch of stuff to learn from this video. A bunch.

I saw it mentioned elsewhere that the malfunction was believed to be a blown out primer that fell into the bolt recess and stopped it from going far enough forward to lock up.

I’d recommend watching the whole video, they talk about the malfunction near the end

Even in that blowing wind it wouldn’t be that hard
If…… the bear was standing up broad side
Not laying down in his hole
That bear is going to come out and come down!
Why why why why take those crappy shots?
X2. >400 yards, uphill, on a bear half denned up. Not ok.

My favorite was the “look-at-me” girl, Tanna, explaining her newfound skills at managing post-traumatic stress. Good grief.

I agree, unfortunately in Canada the 454, or any other handgun falls into the category of designed only to kill the largest number of people as fast as possible or whatever their bs talking point is

I think we are interested in a little more detail than “the bolt won’t close”

Really? Then why don’t you petition the Alaskan F&G to open the season later.

After 14,750 some posts one would think you would know how to read….

I worked in AK for a decade as an assistant guide, BTW, buddy.

There was no ethical shot there, point blank, full stop.
Everyone is right about that.

Crappy luck afterwards, sure. But brought on by the events of their total stupidity and very poor decisions.

They should have shown some pictures, told the story, and burned the video.
But no....thems is clicks right there...
Idiots.

Sorry Pathfinder, you seem to be quite enamored with these 2, but they deserve every bit of flak they're getting.

PTSD......give me a break.

This story reminds me of a similar deal years back where a grizzly/or brown bear was shot several times, then ended up sliding down a snow slope, bleeding, still alive.

I actually found the video quite disturbing mainly because of the "hunters" actions and conversations with each other at the time.

And one of the "Einstein" hunters videoed the entire thing, and of course, ended up on social media around the world.

When you combine people with a little bit of knowledge low ethical standards a camera and a platform like social media to get their crap out to the world, well I think you get the drift of where this is going, more and more of them popping up every day and not just in the hunting world.

He was not in his den. Watch the video. And no I’m not enamoured. I just despise hypocrites. True blue hunters as it were.

We have one guy here calling for their death. Another saying they should have hid the sin like any good hunter would. It’s like a trip down anti hunting lane.

Here are just SOME observations from this video. If people quit rocking themselves to sleep on the floor in the corner there is stuff you can actually learn.

Energy is a BS number with BS results

Middle of the middle is questionable on a bear

High shoulder CNS shots, on purpose, are stupid

The nonsense that Bears are soft. Hit them in the lungs and it’s over shortly ludicrous.

A push feed Remington and its ilk is a poor hunting weapon choice. Poor reloading practices are worse.

100% he wasn’t in his “den”
He dug a hole to try and catch a marmot
I have seen bears doing this on the peninsula as well

Those are totally irresponsible shots
Do you think they need a pat on the back for this? Not a chance
Kinda like the native lady that shot the record grizzly in the head multiple times with a .22 cal. Where were those ethics?

I really dont know where you are going with this?
But she shot that grizzly at the ideal moment with the weapon she had
They shot that bear at the absolute worst time. That bear was going to climb out of that hole and be broadside. They just had to wait. These bears are far far bigger than an alberta moose. They are a big target when they are broadside

That grizzly bella twin shot was probably half the size of that brown bear

I wouldn't bet money that wasn't his den, as bears return many times in the first few weeks after waking up.
No one will know for sure.

The point is he was mostly in a hole. Enough that they had to yell at him in an attempt to get him to expose enough for a shot. And then when he didn't, they shot at him anyway.
Very, very poor decision. The extreme wind and range compound that poor decision.

Not saying they aren't hardcore, because they are. You would never catch me doing a hunt like that even in my prime.
But they made a very stupid decision taking that shot. That should have been Lesson #1. They don't acknowledge that at all.

The rest of it has some take aways I guess.
Biggest takeaway should be what NOT to post on social media.
Unfortunately, they are after viewers at any cost. Even a black mark on the sport.
