Default 17 br

Came across a Ruger 77 varminter 22-250 ( barrel is done ) and from a previous project I have a Adams and Bennett 17 cal barrel that was chambered for 17BR. The barrel was very accurate and 25 gr bullets clocked near 4500fps . It was pulled apart years ago for another project and the barrel has very few rounds they it. Grandson should be impressed when we teach some gophers to fly this spring .

It sounds super cool. It’ll definitely send the gophers flying.

4500FPS would make them fly for sure!

Many years ago I had a 17 rem on a Ruger #1 with a Shilen barrel . Using Genco 15 gr bullets I could reach 5000 fps . It was interesting to shoot gophers at 100 yard range as it appeared they swallowed a hand grenade .

That 17BR would require outside neck turning - that's a chore I despise.

I built a 20PPC and it needed neck turning.
Also, built a 20BR which didn't need neck turning.

My current 20-250 doesn't need necks turned and is an ultimate caliber compared to the former builds as the 55grain Berger @ 3780 is
fast and accurate. However, not a high volume caliber since it's a barrel burner with life expectancy of max. 1000 rounds

My 17Rem in a CZ527 with pet load 25gr Berger Target pill @ 4200
Very accurate.

When I first built 17BR the only brass available at the time was 7BR. The first time I started forming a case after running thru the forming dies (not paying enough attention ) there was no hole in the neck for a bullet it was brass !!! Had to resort to neck turning , reck reaming at different stages
