I would try to buy your tags early as sometimes old tags come up as invalid in the system for some reason. This way if it happens to the tags you have you have the opportunity to get new ones before the season starts.

I tried one from last year and it showed as invalid in the system.

Might have something to do with the Number series. I used 0049XXXXX sourced this year from CT in May successfully to register against 4 tags, have another 10 blanks unused from same batch.

I have one leftover from last year 00507XXXX will see if its still viable when I grab the rest of the family tag's.

Not sure what causes it, some will work some wont. I have an envelope with about 20 tags that come up as invalid. I've purchased my license at Cabela's and it took them 3 tries to find a valid tag. I wonder if they do that to prevent people from shooting an animal then buying the tag right after the shot?

Because it can happen its a good idea not to leave it to the last minute just in case it happens to you.

I have used a green tag without a bar code this year for my first senior WT general tag and it went through. Must be as old as the RELM system. It has 5 zeros in front of 5 numbers.
I hope it will be a good luck charm.
