Default Snider has arrived

I think it's a BSA English cut down rifle ? The barrel is 26" and has a crude front sight dovetailed into the barrel. On top of the action is marked II** the door fits tight with no play. It is a 3 groove with the forend sawed off with a brass band around the barrel and stock.and a VR under a crown behind the hammer 1867. Brass butplate and 3 rds of ammo one Dominion Cartridge company, one paper wrapped and the last Kynoch .577 S Trigger guard is also brass .What material would the barrel be ? Iron or steel? The Dominion rd is noticeably shorter in OAL than the other two? Stock stamp has a crown in a circle R M on either side of the crown and a 1 under the circle ?

Default Fired a test rd today

Not sure but my fire formed brass looks more like a shotgun hull . No shoulder.I cut the 24ga brass at 2" It came out fired at 1.98" .655" below the rim and .634" at the neck. There is a noticeable crimp at the end and extraction had to be done with a cleaning rod.I think my brass is still too longas about the width of the rim protruded while chambering a rd. I had to use a piece of hardwood and give it a tap to be able to close the action. Perhaps I should cut them again at 1.90" and see if that solves the loading and extraction issue. The rim is .06 thick. Oh the forming load was 65gr of FG 40gr cornmeal under a 20ga cork card and a bore buttered .577 HB mini. Perhaps not hot enough for fire forming? Thoughts?

Default fire forming the Snider

I loaded up two rds last night before bed in 24ga Magtech brass. 60grs of FG /1/8" 20ga cork wad /equal volume of #8 shot with another 20ga cork wad on top all tamped down snug topped with white glue to seal the pkg. Walking back to the truck after a morning hunt I spot a chicken under a balsam so I put all my gear in the truck and took out the Snider . Chicken was still there upon arrival ......headshot at 20ft. Seems to work. The inside brass necks measure .590 so what size projectiles should I be considering?
