Default ducer changing depths randomly

I have the garmin dual beam IF ducer on a garmin echomap.
Has anyone had issues where depth will read correctly (12ft) then a few minutes later it will now say 1-2 ft for a while then bounce back to the true depth?

Looking down the hole and how much line went out, the 12ft looked accurate.

I have used this set up all winter and never had this issue before.
It was quite annoying especially when you were marking fish.

It did this 5 separate times throughout the day. I was in a pop up tent and not hole hopping. It would always do back to the true depth eventually.
Ducer was at or near the bottom of the ice.

Any insight ??

Might be a large fish cruising just under the ice. Had one the other day fishing at 24 ft of water and suddenly I was in 5ft of water. I could see the signal fade as the fish swam away and then I was at 24ft again for the rest of the day.

Sometimes my garmin starts acting up too, Turn it off and wait a few seconds then turn back on.
Does it once or twice a season.

I get some weird stuff every now and then as well, wipe the bottom of the transducer usually helps too.

I had the same problem last year at Wab.
Couldn't figure it out until I walked over to another guy fishing about 40ft. from me, he was having the same problem. I went back to my spot and turned mine off. he yelled over that his was OK now. Turned mine back on and the problem was back for the both of us. It turns out that both transducers were on the same frequency and interfering with each other. Found that out from somewhere on the net.

Thanks everyone!

I guess with anything IT, turn it off and on again lol!

It was quite busy with it being free fishing weekend as well so maybe interference.

I wish it was a big fish but either way it did fix itself

A few things to try ....

- Try lowering the sensitivity a bit

- drop transducer down another few inches so it clears the slush layer

- re-set it

As Gerry mentioned above - if there are other electronics around, you can get interference - one of the units need to change frequency otherwise there's no cure for that.

My humminbord does that from time to time. I just change frequency/chirp setting and it fixes it

If you are setting the transducer high up in the hole the signal will hit the sides as ice depth increases throughout the winter. To test it lower the transducer to the bottom edge of the ice and see if the problem continues. If it doesn't you'll know that was the issue. I find once ice depth starts getting to 14" plus even with a 10" hole my transducer signal will bounce off the sides of the hole and especially if the transducer is not centred in the hole. Just lower it as needed.

My wives needs tweaking too when I am near hers with my garmin, that and set up below the ice.

All need a little adjusting when setting up for best results.
