Default Car through the ice at ghost today

Saw recovery efforts being readied to get a smallish SUV of some sort out of a hole in the ice by the boat launch at the ghost reservoir today. Looked like the front end had gone in and it was tied off to something to keep it from falling the rest of the way in.

I was dirtbking there today and saw it break through. The thing i couldn't believe is that even after it broker through several other vehicles still decided to drive out onto the ice and drive across that same pressure ridge. Just seams plane stupid to me.
Also more sketchiness at ghost. North of the bridge half way up the arm before it turns left up into the river, there are holes of open water. Some sort of warm water bubbling up it looked like. The water was still plenty thick right to the edge of these holes, than all of the sudden open water. Many of these holes ranging from 1 foot wide to a meter wide. Not only where there the open holes, but you could see many more white patches up there where the ice is getting very thing. While biking out of there i accidentally drove over one of these white patches and my rear tire broke though. Thankfully i had enough speed and was able to recover without any troubles. It was quite literally a minefield up there. Little patches of either open or close to open ice all over.

who would drive on the ice down south here? I feel nervous walking on it and wont even drive my quad on a lake south of red deer.

I watched several cars and trucks driving through the water at the launch at Eagle by Strathmore Friday.

Went on with my quad but could not believe someone did not break through. Willing to bet someone goes for a swim today with all this high temp and big winds going on the past few days.

I'm not surprised. I actually said that to my wife that I bet there are clowns still driving on it.

Default We better keep an eye on this.

Saw it on the news tonight. This has prompted some of the locals from the mini-cottage community to start a movement to ban people from driving on the ice. Typical NIMBY stuff , if they make enough noise, that will be the start of the end of ice fishing there.

People just don't seem to have common sense these days. People better smarten up before new rules are imposed.

Insurance companies will be dinging people as well.

Not worth the risk, especially with the quality fishing there :-)
Ya and the fishing at ghost sucks anyway lol

The Ghost a great place in the winter for everyone to be ripping around on dripping oil and spilling gas on it plus what ever else is coming off all of the vehicles driving around on it, after all it is only Calgary's drinking water they are messing around with

Problem began when winter driving courses were held on Ghost the last 2-3 years. After the courses were held, it brought people onto the ice in droves. Frustrating for the fishermen having to watch all the idiots driving on the ice. This wasn't an issue prior to the courses. Yes the odd stupid fisherman driving on the ice fell through, but not like the last couple of years with all the yahoo's out there.

People are STUPID. Pics in last weeks Cochrane paper of a truck that went in right off the boat launching ramp.

Most insurance companies have in the fine print that your insurance is void on a body of water. Even ferries.

Couple trucks went through the ice yesterday on Tobin. On the flats of all places. Couldn't plan for that with 24"+ ice. Can't blame those guys, that was pretty unexpected. The people at Ghost on the other hand
