Next thing ya know you'll be against people using bullets made of ice, saying that after someone is shot the bullets will melt and there won't be any evidence!

I was also shot at by hunters during antelope season while working s of M Hat. I could tell where it came from and how far it was from my head... 1 - 2 meters. Someone with bad eye sight mistook me beside a well head for fair game.

With or without suppression, I always had a plug in my right ear.
Save the ears people, you only hear once.

It's that "zzzzip"

In my case, it was hearing that "zzzip" sound in the bushes, and seeing little leaves fall. The mind seemed to links up the direction of the sound of the "bang"with the sound of the "zzzzip" real fast!
Getting down on the ground seemed like one heck of a good idea - I did that fast - and then scuttling behind a nearby quonset - again, low and fast - was the next best idea.
Good news was, there was only one shot.

It's an indication as to the direction someone else is and quite possibly someone has just harvested an animal. We were able to help a couple of young successful moose hunters get a nice bull out to the adjacent cut line 20 some years ago because we heard the report of the rifle. They got an extra couple sets of hands out of the deal and by the end of it we had a pretty good idea of where everyone from both groups were going to roughly be over the next week. It was good interaction between the two groups. Unfortunately the only other shots that week came from a bottle of Bonded Stock after supper a few nights. I'm with others on this one when it comes to jumping out of the way of a shot, I don't think you would have a hope in hell in"dodging that bullet".

But since you asked I'm just not interested in owning toys like suppressors or muzzle brakes. I enjoy shooting rifles just as they come out of the box. Not toyed up versions of. I don't shoot more gun than I can handle the recoil from just so I can say "mine's bigger than yours", and at the same time I'm not interested in playing pretend secret assassin with a pew pew gun.
I shoot .35w, 7mm, 270, and 6.5 CM. Anyone that needs mods to help with medium cals like those should probably stick with rimfires, and, guns are supposed to go bang.

The thing is suppressors have been proven to prevent hearing loss.
So tell me...since safety glasses and ear plugs aren't in the box I take you don't use them either?

Don't go down the road of logic with that one. They have a tendency to get lost and drown in the ditch water.

Just echoing what others have mentioned about the noise level. Suppressors do NOT make shots silent. I've shot a few suppressed guns and know people well who own them in the US.
You will absolutely still hear the shot when suppressed. It just damages your hearing less, that's all. It's very positive and some European countries require it because there's really almost no downsides other than another thing to buy and a longer barrel/looks (if you don't like it).
I know one guy well who went to great pains to try and make an actual silenced gun. He built a .22 pistol, found the right expensive subsonic rounds (to keep it under the speed of sound so as to keep the projectile from making a lot of noise) and the right can. And yeah, it's theoretically silent. But it still makes a racket from the metal clashing against metal, and it's a .22lr, and even when he held the slide so it would do nothing you could still hear it quite well within a maybe 50m radius. Way under gunshot levels, but you could hear it.
Anyways, here's to less hearing problems if silencers are permitted, as they really should be.

lowering the DB from 140 to 120 will still result in hearing loss probably more so because having a suppressor gives a false sense of security not to wear any hearing protection. Would you wear safety glasses with only one lens?

LOL so how many shots do you need to have go by your head to KNOW it is only 1-2m away and not 5-10 or 10-20 or........

If you'd like to use a suppressor than by all means do so. You use safety glasses (outside of upland) and ear plugs while hunting?
I use muffs at the range. Hunting? For the 1-4 shots taken each year I don't really care. Don't notice it at all outside of a range with a covered shooting area. The one or two times I've forgotten to pull the muffs back into place, theres definitely that wonderful ringing sensation that I'd rather not repeat. Never experienced that ringing once while hunting.
I doubt very much that I'm damaging my hearing one iota. City noise day to day likely does a lot more damage.

Well, science says your wrong about hearing loss (can happen with as little as one shot) https://www.asha.org/public/hearing/...oise-Exposure/ but you go ahead and be a man's man...me, I'll keep my vision and hearing.

I really think suppressors should be allowed. For hearing issues that can arrive with it. The fact that they don’t allow it because criminals would use them is dumb, how many criminals follow the laws as it is anyways. I’d like to use one while hunting and target shooting.

Maybe a full kevlar body suit too.
You think many in this forum wear ear protection while big game hunting with rifles? Would probably work well when calling elk I bet.
Why do you care anyways? Your retirement dollars from McBains and Cal Photo won't be subsidizing my hearing aid if or when.

Got the call last Friday i have been approved and my tax stamps have been issued!! Tuesday I go pick up my suppressors!! Have to say I’m quite excited! Having talked to several friends who hunt with them it sounds like a very practical accessory that I will wonder why I waited so long for, Time will tell...

I would like a suppressor for hunting because I have a hearing disability. Does anyone else wear hearing protection when hunting? It’s a real pain in the pipe not to mention not hearing a predator sneaking up on you.

I'm jealous! I wish we could use suppressors here. Most of my guns have brakes because I like them and can spot my own hits. A good set of electronic ear plugs while hunting works great. Can hear like normal and instantly reduces noise at the shot. In my opinion I don't think we will ever be able to use them in Canada. Hope I am wrong. Friend of mine just applied for a suppressor in Louisiana. Now for the one year wait till he gets it.

I wear my MSA Supreme earmuffs when hunting now, I can turn them up and actually hear some things now, and it protects my 'already damaged too late to save' hearing...at least it keeps my ears from ringing for five days after I smack something with the .300 WM.

That’s all the people ever do is bitch about gunshots being too loud some states it’s mandatory even as a shooter I love not to hear my guns shock blast!! Definitely would be useful to keep the neighbours happy if they happen to be that bitchy type

Please do tell which states have mandatory suppressor ownership for shooters because as far as I know there are none. It is still a decisive topic here and laws very significantly amongst states.

Suppressors are required in some European jurisdictions because they lower their noise level in their more densely populated landscapes, allowing people to hunt without unduly disturbing others, and so manage their game levels.
Sort of like our laws on mufflers - you can hear vehicles, and the noise can be annoying, but not startling.
With shooting ranges being shut downing our country, due (in part) to noise complaints, I would think they'd be welcomed here.

Got both cans out today. Have to say the .22 is an absolute blast! Like some have already mentioned it is STILL LOUD but definitely muffles the crack. Now I just need to get some sub sonic 22 ammo. I do wonder why I didn’t do them sooner! A buddy of mine is an ATF agent and loves rubbing it in! Absolutely they are one of the most pleasant firearms accessories I have ever purchased!
