Lol, pretty much what I thought. The beetle spin has been around forever.
IMO getting short strikes on a spinnerbait is fairly typical. The hooking percentage simply isn't as good as a lot of other lures. The hooking percentage is significantly better than any other "weedless" type lure I've tried though, and when buzzed on the top the hooking percentage is far better than most topwater lures.
I'm a huge fan of spinnerbaits but I agree that in clear, open water they are often out of their element. Probably why they've never been used much for trout. I'll usually run a stinger hook if I'm fishing a spinnerbait where weeds aren't a concern.
