Fishing for Newbies! Please Advise

Hi Everyone!

I've always wanted to to go fishing and learn on my own, looks amazing and fun! Haven't fished before but I've watched videos and read articles for tips and tricks. Been Reading several posts here and it really seems like the folks know what their talking about and are really friendly and helpful.

I'm looking for an area near Edmonton, or a couple hours away. Was hoping for it to be quite, not much people and a good chance of catching something. Thinking of taking the wife with me, don't have a boat to use so it would have to be an area where you can sit and wait.

Any suggestions would be very grateful!
