Good luck... I’ve spent a lot of time out there and seen tracks.
Saw a few cows a LONG time ago. Not the place I’d be looking.

Yah seen tracks also... there there but im 100% sure they are night walkers there.. will have to get myself a trail cam.. and see what walks around... only thing i have ever saw there is a sow and cubs(black bears) at the end of Harold Creek Road(west) there is a lease road that goes along side of hillside to the other side; with some clear cuts on one side..one way in; one way out...seen moose droppings there when i took a walk around there.

I feel like I have done a fair amount of hunting in Harold creek and have seen no elk and no elk sign. Seen some big moose and a few scatted mule and white tail... and horses... lots of horses. But no elk. Good luck.

Stay far off the main road and u may have some luck

Default The Mighty Ghost Elk Herds.

I used to live near and around the Village of Waiparous and got to know a lot of the old fellas who had lived there since the 1960s. They told stories of hunting herds of Elk moving along the Ghost River.
I have lived, rode, hunted and camped for over thirty years and never seen an Elk out there.

I frequent that area and they are rare. I've seen a stray a few times and the herd twice. only ever saw a bull once. they are too pressured to be worth hunting unless you luck out and know where they go at that particular day. And I bet it's far from any reasonable access during hunting season.

I hunt lots in that area of 316. Their is fair amount of Moose and bear and there are some decent whitetail. Ive seen mule deer as well. Wolves are leaving more sign each season. The areas i hunt used to have very little wolf activity. We found elk set of elk tracks once. Ive only been hunting it for 8 years but ive put on quite a few boot miles.

basically no elk shot in 412 is what it is saying for that 5 yr span? I have found a dead 3 point elk in 412, it was old though. I have also heard stories of a heard of elk on Blackrock but never have seen any in there or round-abouts.

theres lots of elk out there on the ranches and First Nations reserve right smack in the middle where you can't hunt them other than that ive see a grand total of ZERO out there. had a good friend that seen 6 cows once but that was years ago. that entire chain of zones gets nailed hard by half the population of road hunters and 1 km walkers and watchers from Calgary. you may have better luck in a foothills zone seems like every year there less and less elk in the 400-420 zones some of those zones have completely collapsed over the last 15 years.

I used to live on second house on the left up the Forestry Truck Road that leads to Waiparous. Elk on the property all the time as they were brutal on the fence. I have a bunch of pictures from a heard of around 30 moving through. Usually they were out at night though. A few times a herd was beside the highway on the 1A. Numerous in that herd.

And in the daytime they are sleeping safe and sound on Simpson Ranching lands to the east. Nobody get to hunt there, nobody ever.

x2, lots of good feed and ranchers who won't let you hunt.

Simpson’s actually allow access now... get in line or know someone who has an in. There aren’t nearly the elk on their land that there were a few years ago.

From what I hear, Luke is running the ranch now, but Johns newest wife still says NO hunting.
