1000 fine and 20,000 costs.
Talk about tripping over hundred dollar bills to pick up nickels. I know a few people like that.

The worst part for her is she is going to miss the Rod Stewart concert. Man that England place is messed up. Sadly I think that's where we're heading.

That is great use of tax payers money...what the he** are they thinking passing a law to stop the selling pets to under age.
Maybe start with cleaning up the streets of people selling drugs to kids.
this kind of stuff realy gets me going...

Well, I don't really think "pets" should be sold to youngsters without a parent being there. That being said, I don't really consider a goldfish a "pet," not in the same way I consider a dog or a cat a "pet" anyway.
The sting op seems a terrible waste of resources, but at least they did discover the condition of the cockatiel. The whole thing would make more sense if she'd been smacked with an animal cruelty charge, as that is where I think the true crime lies.
Yes, I feel the bird has much more value than the fish. I've known a couple of very interesting cockatiels

It's always a matter of degree and interpretation. The law sounds pretty stupid when goldfish are the animals in question, but I don't think it's such a bad thing to regulate the selling of, say, dogs to children without parental consent. I'm just sayin..... It's like saying parking laws are fine, but don't ticket me if it's a time when there is little or no traffic around.

This si what comes from having an uber-lefty government for how many years. That box with comparison sentences was really telling.

I guess the problem with common sense, is that it's not too common.

Wow. Good thing they didn't sell the boy a hamster -- they might never be getting out of prison!
While I agree, in principle, that pets should not be sold to minors unless accompanied by a parent, IT'S A GOLDFISH! For crying out loud, my brother had one when he was 4, and it lived for a year or 2. This is absolutely moronic.

neat
I was just wondering how long it would take for someone to say something like "Things like this should be left up to the judgement of the pet shop owner and the parents. It's none of the gov't's business." But I got impatient.
This is why half our money goes to some knob in the government, who if not for his government job, would likely have a hard time holding down a job, being given the responsibility of telling all the rest of us how to live our own damn lives.
And for the record, I've known a lot of 14 year old kids I'd rather sell a pet (depending on the pet) to than many adults I've encountered in my life.
