Default East Pitt Lake

Couldn't find any reports on East Pitt this season.

Anyone check it out?

Is it OK to drive a quad on?

Thanks

No horses on the lake? There goes my plan to pack in my auger and supplies on horseback.

These rules seem to be based on trail use?

Thats the only way into the lake is through a tight zig zag fence and walking up the hill and down the hill. I don't know of any other access. The hard part is dragging all your stuff back up the hill on the way out and the 50 pounds of trout if you get 5 ten pounders. Heart attack hill!

Have fun let us know how you do.

It is private land hence all the restrictions. I believe it is all fenced and gated off as well except for the tight zig zag foot path.

You can fit a sled underneath the gate to get your gear in, the hill isn't too bad and it really isn't far at all.

Actually, instead of going right (East), after leaving parking area and going down that hill from hell with all your ice fishing gear, you can head straight west and walk on the road that the stocking truck uses then head east at a couple spots till you hit the lake. It's a little further to walk, but you miss that steep hill. The trail is shown quite clearly on google earth. Please lte us know how you make out if you go.
I love Brandons crack about the gas powered ice auger and battery operated flasher, camera or even a flashlight.

Considering the present conditions, the hill could prove difficult to ascend while pulling a loaded sled unless one is wearing cleats.

What a pathetic strain... why can't they put in a real fish in there. I wish they Stocked Kamloops (Pennask) Rainbow that fight like a freight train or Fraser Valley bows that grow fat like tubs of lard!

Athathbow? what a waste of a great lake that has potential to grow huge fish.

I actually took the time to look it up and they weren't athabows. They stocked a new(maybe?) strain this year they have dubbed as pit lakes. Only there and diplomat mine pond got them.

I don't know if they grow slower or if they just stocked a lot of smaller ones then the average this year cause in September when I was there they were still only 6-8 inches even though they supposedly stocked 5.5 inchers. They should have been growing quicker then that, we thought maybe they stocked it in the fall as well just before we got there but no signs of a second stocking on stocking report.

Really... that is really poor growth... those fish are usually 10 to 13 inches.

That strain is indeed athabows. They grow just fine though, can't blame the strain for small fish.

Yeah, not sure what size people are catching now. We were catching multiple small ones and both of us thought they must had just stocked it but if they did they didn't update stocking report.

Triploids are the only way to go now a days... I don't understand why they stock anything but triploids.

BC stocks a lot of All Female Triploids since they have higher quality meat, live longer and grow bigger. Only thing is you don't get the crazy looking male brook trout.

Since this is on topic (OP) Is this a Athabow trout? My son caught this at east pit about 3 weekends back. The red colour was quite brilliant. Never herd about athabows until I saw this thread and now I'm wondering? We only got one like this. Can't find many decent pictures on google either. BTW they were biting good that day, but around 3:30 pm, like some one turned off the switch and they stopped biting.

This one was maybe 10 - 11 inch, that was about the average (or larger) of all the fish we got that day. My brother has got some in the 17-18 inch range in the open water there. This photo of the same fish shows the size better.

So yeah still smaller then I would expect for this time of year. They are growing though, I wonder if a bunch of the ones they stocked were just smaller then the 5.5 in on the report.
