Default lazy boy

As a lazy Calgary Canadian starting fishing from 2015 ( CC2015 ), I do not want to drive more than 30 minutes to fishing. I do some research on the google map of Calgary and choice here.

Default summer fishing

The first time I went to Bearspaw was in the summer. I parked my car, crossed the field, climbed down a cliff, and reached the water.

I set up my jig with a shrimp as the bait, and threw the hook into the water as far as possible. and then I turned around to undo my backpack and a small chair. Suddenly, my rod felled down.

"XXXX, the stream is too fast", I said in my mind. and put my rod in the position again and It felled down again. "I should change the weight", I told myself and rolling back my hook.

Then, I see this one

Default No more luck

After that, I went back there fishing occasionally. I caught some lake trouts and pikes but not white fish.

I found a very interesting rules there. If I went there before 10:30AM, I can catch something. after that, I can catch nothing.

I am not so satisfied at it since I wish I can catch fish like this

Default first winter fishing

I made my mind to do ice fishing here.

In the early of December, I came back, and drilled a hole in the place where I catch my first rainbow trout in the summer.

A school of mount whites and a rainbow trout were there. I tried to catch them but my jig is too light for the stream there. So, I moved around to the shallow places.

Whenever I drilled a hole and put my hook into the water there are some whites swimming around my hook. But most of them are under size. I landed more than 20 whites and release more than 18. Only two are keep-able.

Default sludge

Happy time is always short. After two weeks of happy fishing time there, I found the situation was changed. For some unknown reason, there was a very thick of sludge under the black ice.

After drill a hole, the only thing you can see is sludge. Every spoon of ice you spooned out of the fishing hole, there were two spoons of ice came into the hole.

No way to fishing.

Default fishing hole A

fishing hole A is full of small withe fishes. You can land more than 20 within one hour but you have to release them all since they are under size. Only with luck, you may catch 1 or 2 keep-able after several hours of fishing.

Default fishing hole B

Fishing hole B is much better. You can catch 1~2 keep-able white in 1 or 2 hours. One of my friends catch a real big white there.

There are something even better that you can see pikes there. After jigging the hook to attracted the small white, 1~2 Pike are showed and suddenly disappeared.

I tried to catch the pike but they are so timid that they only give one quick bite and swimming away.

I need a pike picture here.

Default fishing hole C

No doubt, fishing hole C is the best of them all.

I need a picture of a school of suckers. More than 10 suckers swimming back and forth.

I need a picture of trout. My friend see a trout go around his red hook but don't bite.

I need a picture of pike. She bited my hook three times, and I don't land her. XXXX

I need a picture of ling. It sits beside of my small red hook but don't touch it.

I need a picture of a white more that 20 inches. It bited my #10 red hook and released himself.

The only picture I can show for this hole is the 45cm white...

Default Public access

It is welcomed to fishing there but the only thing people should be careful is to stay in the reservoir, not to got the the bow river.

Default Lovely Alberta winter

Even it is cold, sunny Alberta winter is the best time I ever have.

Wish to get more pictures from anglers here about the fishes you have caught in the Bearspaw, a Heaven for fishing in the winter.

It's fantastic when fellow sportsman share information amongst our brethren!
Now if I could find someone who'd share where a guy might go in Southern Alberta for a walleye...

Fishing on Bearspaw is something I certainly would like to try! Thanks cc2015 for opening our horizons.

There is one trout, which is more than half meter long, going around my friend's hook 5~6 times. But did not bite. Wish some one can land it and post a picture.

The person laid on the ice landed 3 suckers, 4 whites yesterday. He is researching the jig configurations for this lake and found a effective one. He also searching the new sweet spots.

The person who held the fish landed a 55cm whites. But he took it home before I took the pictures.

I forget the fish in the picture is landed by who since we land the fish and put them together. That day, 4person land 4 rainbows.
