I bought airbags for my dodge 1/2 ton and suburban at jb's automotive in Edmonton.
They were pretty economical.

Had bags under my '01 ram 2500 for the 10' slide in we used to have. Couldn't tell you what it weighed, but it was a 77 vanguard, fully equipped including bathroom and oven. It was just the right weight to take the rough out of that ride. Never did put air in the bags in 400k I drove that thing.

My point is, do a couple runs with the camper, and see if you need em or not

Replace the diff cover:

http://afepower.com/shop/application...rue&brandID=86

Holds more oil & can be changed as often as you want.

These guys do meticulous work and their prices for parts is usually very competitive. Have had them mount airbags, winches, winch bumpers. lights etc. All were done perfectly and they are close to you.

If you don't go for the on board air pump, make sure you have a long enough cord on your air pump if its 12v. And IMO use a shop (tire or maintenance) to install em. Its not a big hassle but the lift make things nice.

If no on board air plumb the valve to your licence plate bolt holes. Then wire a pump to plug into your trailer light plug.

So what exactly do airbags do? Smooth out the ride, level the box, or ???

I have a 2012 GMC 3500HD crew cab long box with a 3500lb camper on it, overload springs but no airbags. It seems to handle fine, definitely a smoother ride with the camper on compared to empty. The box only settles a few inches with the camper, not even close to the overload springs.

A bit of both. They basically take some of the load off of your leaf springs. It's a bit smoother ride, more stable and you can level the truck out as well. It made my 1/2 ton ride more like a 1 ton when it is empty, but I'm really happy with the bags. Actually wish I had them on right from day 1 even when I didn't have a camper, they are nice for those times you end up hauling 500-1000 pounds or pulling a trailer with a heavy load. Maybe not something a 3/4 or 1 ton would absolutely need, but judging by how many weekend warrior rv types there are with their 1/2 ton's headlights pointed at the clouds I think a lot more people could benefit from having a set.

I have always ran Pacbrake airbags on my dodge 3/4 aND 1 ton trucks.
KMS tools stocks them and they are cheaper then the Firestones, especially when they go on sale.

Mounting them is easy. Takes about 2 hours to do yourself. That includes finding the right tools from your tool box.

I run the Firestone bags on my 3/4 ton. Installed them myself. Wasn't to bad of a task.

They clean the ride up.
Level the truck.
Keep your low beams on the road.
Take the brunt of the load, not over stressing your leafs.

I just ran the snifter valve into my lower dash and have a small compressor(in every truck) under or In between the seat. I can plug and play as needed.

Worth in IMO.

If I had extra bucks I would have them on my 1/2 ton that always has tools in the back. In the long run there is a big difference.

And as reeves said. The extra capacity diff covers help keep things maintained and cooler as well if you plan on having the truck a long time.
