Default Water hammer- Outdoor hose Bib

Hey guys, every time I turn on my hose I get terrible water hammer. I’ve tried turning the valve on slowly as recommended online and I still get the knock and pounding. I have about a 10meter run of pex from my furnace room to the outside valve...do I have to much pressure in the house? Any recommendation on trouble shooting this problem. Is it even a problem I need to worry about?

It’s probably just a loose washer, the retaining screw probably backed out a bit. Shut off your water, disassemble the handle and stem assembly and access the washer. Remove the screw and take some needle nose pliers and blemish the threads a tiny bit about a thread or two back from the lead thread, this will act like a thread locker and keep the screw in place. Reassemble (it’s a good time to put in a new washer while you’re at it).

This first link is utter bunk, these sites tend to be information compiled by people who don’t understand what they’re writing, and it shows. Their main intent is to build up any content possible to build traffic for their ads, but the content is crrrrap.

Slightly better, but it completely ignores attending the source of the issue, like treating the symptom but ignoring the disease.

A common service call for a ‘groaning’ water hammer harmonic noise in homes/buildings with copper water lines is sourced to a toilet float valve. It can be induced by shutting off a faucet quickly which initiates a pressure pulse and the float valve starts ‘humming’ as it’s at a point of equilibrium but with the noise emanating from all of the water lines the source can be hard to locate. A new float valve fixes that issue.
