Default Best tactic for Northern Pike?

I'm really up for catching some pike in the NSR. For the best chance of success, what is the best tactic to go by? Also is it best to spin or float fish?

Five of diamonds spoons in larger sizes3"+ , twister tail grubs black white or yellow. In sections that allow bait, smelt on a three way rig . Any pike method that would work in the UK will work in the NSR.

Yes fish gunner has nailed that question dead on. Pike are not to picky. They will hit almost anything.

Yep wooly buggers larger sizes mind you. Iirc I've caught pike (not landed) on every fly bigger than sz 10 , bait from two maggots to 1lb mackerel. Every lure i can think of and the very next day been skunked thats why its fishin not catchin.

I've had good luck with the neon mepps 3 spinner and a 5 of diamonds spoon.

The water is slowly clearing up, but while it's still kinda murky try tossing a Rattlin' Rap...they really seem to key in on the noise in the murk.

Blue/chrome has always been my favorite

X2 I believe the British shore fishing for pike is much more advanced than than what I see here. Both in equipment and technique.

Good Luck to You

This has to be my favourite method of fishing for pike and bottom feeding species: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2HHrNcva6fc

Depends how you like to fish though. I prefer to just cast and forget, and maybe do a bit of ultra light spinning while waiting for a big fish.

My Fav as well, Blue and white or silver Raps work great , I use them near the Whitemud creek mouth to the NSR and have always had success on Raps, Very odd time would be skuniked, But as Geezle has pointed out, with Murky water, you need Scent or Sound for pike, in a few weeks with Clarity up, almost everything in your box will catch them lol, Good luck ..

Three way rig with Smelts is almost a sure thing, plus you may also get into some Burbs or even a dino !

Keep in mind you are only allowed to fish with one line at a time in open water season ..... so, in your example, you are breaking the law.

When bait fishing in current, I like to add some corkies and spin n glows with beads ahead of the bait to have my presentation "move and bounce around" attracting some attention.

Using a weight up the line anchors the line in place, but the bait cascades downstream and swirls around.

Good Luck and have some fun out there.

You use a worm when fishing for pike and you can catch perch too. Sometimes use a fake fish likes lure and stop start to give it a jerky action. Get strong line though I did once have a 15 on 10 pound line strength.

Can use multiple lines. Went on a boat trip once and what we did was drag multiple lines behind the boat.

Spoons, red and whites, five of diamonds etc various colors, shapes and sizes. Leaders, good quality line, casts lots, change up your retrieval and you will have fun.
