way to go everyone. I actually got 2 species I wasnt expecting. next winter no mercy! are we doing an open water one too? I dont think it should matter boat or shore, can catch them just as big off shore most times, except maybe some of the trout. up to the judges.

yeh, this added a little fun to an otherwise dismal ice fishing season. who i would really like to congratulate is copper carbide and dago for going through all the trouble to moniter and tabulate all the entries. does not sound easy and must have taken some time. bring on open water derby. i vote for boat and shore.

really surprised that not one brown trout was entered. hope to post a pic of one in next couple weeks.

Can't take much credit. AJ and Dago came up with the idea and did the legwork to make it happen. I just made a spreadsheet once in a while... which is kinda like fun work for me anyway, hahaha.

if we do an open water one, what are the thoughts on sturgeon, pretty hard to get a pic of a tape beside the longer ones that will be in focus, and being an endangered species we probably shouldnt be stressing them out more than necessary, dont want people laying them in the dirt to measure them. people are going to take pics with them anyways, I know I do. maybe a size class based on a good estimate? or just leave them out. we should add the different types of suckers though.
Also thanks to the organizers for your work on the ice derby, it was fun competing.

I think sturgeon should be left out...mostly because of the rules regarding them. Just my 2 cents.....going to try and compete in the open water fun!

Yeah lets leave Sturgeon out, I agree. I do like Waynes idea of adding suckers however!
As for Shore/Boat, well just call this Openwater derby.

thats definitely the way to go I think maybe separate Sauger and walleye too, make it 2 classes.

We split the difference up north for the Hardwater and closed it on the March 15th, giving up 2 weeks of prime fishing time. Season opener up here is May 15....

Congrats to the winners. As with Gunner, couldn't even put one on the board. (Something tells me he could have though).

But I do sometimes catch some fish in the rivers, so the anticipation of possibly having my name on the board is exhilarating!

Congrats everyone! Thanks to those that started it and kept track of everything. It was a lot of fun getting out to some different waters this season and ended up with a couple ice fishing firsts. Looking forward to an open water derby. I echo the no sturgeon and yes to suckers & sauger. It can start anytime, soon as the ice is far enough from shore I'll be chucking a fly. Then at 12:01 on May 8, the real fishing begins.

since the northerners gave up their last 2 weeks because of our earlier closure only fair we start it when their season opens up there. Lets start it May 15 to even it out, til end of Oct. give the good guys a couple weeks to practice
