Default Wab driving cond?

Anymore know if people are driving out on wab? Townsite or sailing club area? I was out last week and there was 14” of good ice. We walked on.
Planing on taking the 3yr old and the baby tomorrow.
16” and I’d feel safe driving on

Never go by this.
Lakes 10km away from each other can be way different in ice making.
I know that’s not what your getting at timesink, just letting others that may not know, that lakes in close proximity can and do grow ice differently.

Very true. That being said every lake in the Edmonton area has about 16-18inch of ice currently that I'm aware of. This of course doesn't apply to danger areas such as narrows, springs, etc..

Even areas of the same lake can have different amounts of ice.
A couple weeks back norglwen on sylvan had a few more inches than rr23 area did.

Good point for people. I also try to follow a already made vehicle path. It’s risky making your own trails and can get you stuck

Do not drive. We have not had a continued cold snap and it is not yet New Years. FB is littered with guys who thought it was okay to drive on.

Okay thanks fellas. I feel pretty comfortable on 16” of good/consistent ice, but am fully aware how the ice changes. As many have mentioned 2” different from one area of the lake to another is Not uncommon. I have the kids with me so some Extra caution is needed!!!We’re going to gear up to walk on. Play it safe and wait for a few More inches of good ice.

I’ll post the Conditions tomorrow

Better safe than sorry. I usually wait until the new year and only go where people have gone before me if possible. If not we are drilling and testing.

Devils lake is a crazy lake. been out there in late Jan with 20"+ of ice and had several vehicle out there. One of the guys (a forum member here) went to drill a hole that happened to be maybe 15-20 feet from one of the trucks and drilled through 6-7" of ice in that spot ........... YIKES

Not only does it need to be cold and solid, gotta know the lake and where potential springs might be. So any new ground, I ask you all to test the area and stay safe ..... fishing is not worth your life.

18” of ice @ the sailing club just west of town. We were only about 300yards off shore but there was 18” out the whole way. Approx 10 trucks on the lake at the town launch.

Only stayed a few hours with the kiddos but my 3yr old caught her first fish with the new rod and reel grandpa got her ( she upgraded from the plastic Dora the explore rod).

Landed 1 and missed 6-7 in the 2hrs we were out. Wab is a great lake to take your kids! Get outside and go fishing. There is also a long trail for ice skating and 2 hockey rinks on the ice. I’m guessing the trail for skating is at least 4-5km long.
