Yup, it is definitely something to keep an eye on.

With all the tax dollars/breaks given to these electric car/battery companies, shouldn’t we just get a “free” car? I mean we already paid for one…why pay twice?

Pollution from internal combustion engines is killing them. And China and India are growing their solar and wind exponentially, because the smog is literally killing them.
And if people say mining produces a lot of emissions, they are correct. Until hydrogen kicks in and fuels the mining equipment.
There is a bit of a snag here. Canada's electrical generating and transmission system requires about $2 Trillion in upgrades to charge all these predicted EVs. Then there is the mining. Mine planning and permitting takes a minimum of 10 years - more like 20 in the current environment. EVs are going nowhere fast. Perhaps in 30 years or so they will be a viable solution.

Subsidizing EVs with other people's money is not capitalism. Everyone knows what that is and it has proven to be an unworkable solution for at least the past 100 years or more.

Also, it is not pollution from internal combustion engines that is the main issue in China and India. It is the fact that they generate around 70% of their electricity from coal fired generating facilities. And they are constructing more of them every week. (Sometimes 2 a week). Alas, we are not allowed to send them nice clean natural gas to burn.

Infrastructure and supply of hydrogen and electricity and the batteries for RV's are the issues for the near future, thinking that'll probably take a good 10 yrs to get somewhat sorted out. I have no idea where they are going to get all the money from to do it, or how they will improve the batteries for EV's and get the cost of hydrogen down, being as it needs lots of electricity to operate what are commercially scaleable systems at the moment. I get the impression things will be patchy for a while as some areas will get hydrogen hybrids when the supply of hydrogen is rolled out, some will get EV's. Be some heavy economic effects from some of the stupid ICE bans being put in too, in some provinces and states. I suppose that, for now, all we can do is hope some form of marginally sensible gov'ts get elected and do some workable legislation to push the implementaion law back down to something achievable and marginally sensible. I have my doubts about the the EV & hydrogen systems in a national security scenario too. That seems to be a not neccessarily bright idea on the gov'ts part, but, there is a lot of dependence on high tech that is currently being questioned and rethought in those circles.

No problem shipping them about 40 million metric tons of coal though!

For trucks electric only just will not work for a whole bunch of reasons and manufacturers know this.
Gas /electric and diesel/electric sort of like diesel/ electric u boats and trains can work but are expensive.
Alberta is pushing hydrogen because you use natural gas to make hydrogen. This technology probably will work. Cummins is investing heavily into this but its going to be more expensive than a regular diesel truck.
You know you can convert cars to run off of natural gas. Its clean technology. But the we hate Alberta crowd is a against natural gas industry and fracking.

"On Thursday, the federal and Ontario governments announced that they will be doling out an estimated $5 billion in corporate welfare to Honda, so the auto giant can build an electric vehicle (EV) battery plant and manufacture EVs in Ontario."

https://nationalpost.com/opinion/tax...nda-plant-deal

Honda $ 5 Billion
Volkswagen $13 Billion
Stellantis $15 Billion
Northvolt $ 5 Billion

As Peter Foster put it "Take that, Bidenomics! Anything you can subsidize, we can subsidize dumber."

Honda's future direction for the vast majority of it power equipment division is to go EV. They started that process with the halting of all gasoline lawnmower production last fall (North American Market).

Given the fact that gasoline lawnmower production has now ended, I'm sure that will spread to others in their power equipment line, such as tillers, snowblowers, pumps or whatever else they carry for the home garden class.

Electric generators, more power bank offerings, less gasoline options.

ATV's and motorcycles, more electric offerings, less gasoline options.

Marine division, portable class of motors all electric.

I can't help but think that we're going into the VHS/Betamax fight and our government is betting on Betamax
Unfortunately with electric vehicles we don't have the porn industry to guide us on the probable successful outcome (except for the fact that someone is likely to get, uh, well you know)

If a company thinks battery powered is the way of the future for both the market and technology, good for them; the free market should prove them right or wrong. I just don't want my tax dollars providing corporate welfare because of some warped ideology.

Honda was going to build a battery plant in high river but was announced they canceled. Probably going to Ontario/Quebec where the funding is?

Haha that's a good description except that Ottawa destroyed our oil and gas industry to try to create this new industry in Québec/Ontario with our own money

so you are saying someone is already "getting, well you know"

Everyone except the Clown Prince, Freemoney, Jagmeet and Guilbault is well aware

Some of you are just negative. You need to listen to liberals more to get the most out of life and learn proper spending lessons.

Ever since I stopped my Disney + subscription I’ve been rolling in extra cash for food and travel and stuff.
