Default Son's SpeedGoat

I'm pretty new to the forum and am a die hard whitetail hunter. I could not find any exceptional deer to pursue so this was the highlight of my season. My 13 yr old killed this nice goat with a muzzleloader on Thanksgiving weekend.

He's actually a lot more artistic than I and made a very decent looking decoy out cardboard and paint. We had one unsuccessful attempt on a different buck earlier in the day as we just could not get any closer than 3-400 yards and he would not leave his herd. In a nutshell, we spotted this one with some smaller bucks and does where the terrain was more advantageous for us and basically just put the decoy in front of ourselves and walked/snuck up on him and he made a perfect shot. By the time he pulled the trigger our gig was up and the other goats had moved out but this one hung around a hair too long.

Awesome... I know how hard it is to catch these guys standing for to long.. decoy sounds like it was perfect..and a perfect shot as well.. be proud young man, well deserved.

Congrats to your son on a nice speed goat. It may be the only chance or at least a while before he gets another chance in his lifetime. I moved away from Sask a couple years ago when I was 35 putting in for the draws since I was 12 and never did draw an Antelope tag. Mind you there was quite a few years in there that there were no tags issued.

It will indeed be the one and only time I was able to take him antelope hunting as a kid, and who knows where he will end up in life. I've still yet to draw a tag since they started selling them again, neither has his older brother. That contributes greatly to why it was such a rewarding hunt, knowing it was a once in a lifetime situation really.
