Default Weird pheasant areas

Anyone had random pheasants nowhere near release sites? I live north of Grande Prairie and saw a pheasant on the shoulder of the road, looking all proud and pheasanty, just west of Laglace on my drive to work this morning. I know a guy who hit one near Grande Prairie, but the nearest release site is about 100km away and I had assumed that the winters here were too rough for them to manage.

I've seen pheasants here twice, figured they escaped from somebody...

I lived in Fort St. John for 7 years...1995-2003. In mid winter on one occasion on the West side of town a rooster ran across the road as I was driving along...And you all thought only raccoons were expanding their range!!

I have seen them in strange places and strange times over the years and assumed someone was raising and releasing in the area.

One year dad and I saw 3 roosters and a hen east of Newbrook. They were wild as they took off in a real hurry. Dad was pizzzed he didn't get a shot.

Grande Prairie. The birds I ran into were south of town, but still on this side of the Wapiti.

Believe they have a Peace River release site now. No problem for pheasants wintering in most of Alberta now that we have mild winters. They just need good food source, cover and not to many raptors.
