Yup, seen them many times swim under the ice by the hole, but a few years ago at Dipping Vat I had one come up into my tent and then soak me when it saw my ugly mug and scampered back down from where it came!

Thats pretty funny! I had a persistant one at Cow lake before. It tried to come up one hole I was watching down, so I covered it with my foot. It went to the next hole and tried there. For an hour or so, I hopped back and forth trying to stop him from coming into the shack with me and the kids. He would go away for a while then just keep coming back, the kids loved it and wanted me to let him into the tent. I didn't think it would be a good idea with 3 of us in there and a pile of gear, heaters ect...

LOL, thanks for the smile!! All I could think of is, if that was myself and the two daughters I would have felt sorry if the rat made it into the tent!! Both my daughters reminded me of this little girl while growing up LOL.

I have had this happen numerous times at both birch and yellowhead. It got so bad one day, I waited for the little bugger to pop up the hole and drilled him in the face with the metal strainer I use as a hole scoop.

Never saw him again that day.....

Great something else I have to remember now. I just pictured one popping up just as your bringing a fish out of the hole.

Hasn't happened lately, but years ago happened to me several times. I never hit them as after they had a look around they always dived back in.

We had one that was daring us to play whack-a-mole out at Hanmore. We had 3 holes drilled in the tent and he kept popping his head up and splashing around in all 3 of our holes until we moved.

We have had it happen a few times, once last winter then 3 times in one day in December. I thought it was a fat brown frog the first time he came up and did a backflip before my eyes even focussed. Had it check out the camera also, was wondering why it was spinning around til his face showed up. Wonder if they make good pike bait

I had it happen a few weeks ago. I was fishing alone and saw a bunch of bubbles come up my second hole and then all of a sudden one came up the hole I was fishing. I screamed like a little boy and he went back down and never came back. It was a first for me. Little bugger scared me.

I saw a guy take a gulp of 5 Star and spit it on the muskrat's face when the animal popped up.

The animal left and never came back. I guess even muskrats know what crap 5 Star is.

Never had it happen, but I can tell you what I'd do...I find muskrat quite edible.

Default Rats

had it happen a couple times as well. first time was way back in the day. no tents or shacks, fishing for whites shallow water laying on the ice with a garbage bag over my head. no warning up he comes.ya the little rat scared me. nother time one kept popping up a dead stick hole and was knocking the rod over. we thought we'd fix em and caught em in a 5 gallon pail. when we let em go boy was he mad. he had no interest in finding a hole to go down, chased the boys around the ice for a half hour. Rats.

I knew a huge dude, 6'8", 300 plus pounds who was laying on the ice with a tarp covering him up when a 'rat popped out of his hole, right in his face. I wasn't there, but my buds who were said they'd never seen anything funnier than this massive man going 80 miles an hour backwards on his ass, scared out of his head by a 3 pound rodent.

Had one a few years back that tried comming to use our holes in the Tent.

He kept comming back....

My buddy finally got mad enough at it so he went out and popped
4 holes around our hut and that seemed to satisfy him !!
Muskrat was much happier using those holes ....
I guess he just wanted out !!! so we gave him options.

And YUP !! we were pretty close to soiled pants when he
first came up . I guess we're not as tuff as we
think we are..

laugh at yourself as much as you can !!!!!
