Default Eagle Lake

Hey...I was wondering if anyone has been out ice fishing at Eagle Lake this winter? If so how is it?

Thanks!

Well I wouldn't waste your time. This place is a slough, stinky and full of cow poop. Not sure why anyone would fish there EVER.

Yeah mustang's right, ya know 4-5 years ago it wasn't so bad. Always had some luck and it was close to cowtown which was good for the kids. But it is sad now, someone said the WID doesn't flush it anymore. It does stink visabilty is zero. I was out earlier this winter and never had a hit. I did see an asain couple with one on the ice but I can't imagine eating anything out of there.

A real classsy video, jeebuz.

I don't disagree there is fish in there. Water is terrible. I can't believe they are keeping and eating fish out of there. Mercury anyone?

Looks like it would be fun fishing. The water did not seem that bad in the video. Sounds like a plan needs to be put in place to try and clean the water up a bit.

Just finished watching all 5 parts. They did very well and down there is not to bad for water the way it looked. Must have been early in the year. Probably no fish left as they kept them all though!

Default eagle

That video was posted in Early June. The walleye fishing at the start of the year can be awesome,it does seem to come to a complete stop (at least for me) once the water warms,it also has some serious amount of algae usually getting quite thick around the middle of July.At that point I dont go back until spring although I have caught many fish there in the winter months.
I always caught fish north of the boat launch on the East side.
This lake is somewhat lacking structure but was able to find a hole that went from 4 to 10 feet where fish seem to hang out.Summer time we just use a jig and nightcrawler and winter jig and smelt or pickeral rig with smelts.

Want you to know that its not me in the video, its just what i found. But i have had great days fishing Eagle. and I have been skunked there too. My friend has eaten walleye from there and said it was awesome. one night in june I caught 7 walleye and a bunch of pike, with my fly rod, with no boat, just waders. my nephew caught the biggest walleye I seen come out of there though the ice, on a tip up, with a 6" smelt. it was so fat , it looked like a football. sure wish we would have weigh it. anyways the water is always colored and its not a gimme spot to catch fish . but it close and worth a try once and awhile.

OK people! I will give you all the benefit of the doubt. I'll go check it out Wednesday afternoon until dark and see what happens. By the looks of the video, they were fishing just off that berm on the south end. Anyone have any GPS spot to share? I'll keep them secret and am moving to SK so will never use them again past Wednesday!

So has anyone had luck THIS winter? I used to slay 'em on the flyrod in the spring as well but as I said it has gone downhill in the last few years. Yes there is still fish in there, no doubt. But when you can't stand the smell of your hut cause the water is so stinky its not worth it to me.

LOL. That happened to me once last year at Bruce. Couldn't stand sitting in the stink anymore and packed up. Weather looks good for next week so hopefully I won't need the shack. I'll post a report. It closes soon.

No gps but if you go to the east side just north of the rv park where the big trees stop(pretty bald shore after the trees) and go out about 75-100 yards there is a hole there that you can usually bang off a few.If you go too far north you will be really shallow so be careful with the auger. There is also a fence on the shore that runs east west if u are just south of the fence line you should be very close...good luck.

HEY......dont go to EAGLE....the last fish was caught last August!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IS DEAD......dont bother.

I like to go there to walk the dog and get some exercise.......But to fish..no way...go elses where.

I also heard the water is toxic and loaded full of cow's std's.

The water will melt your auger and even your dead minnows will leap back out of the hole....its disgusting!!!!!!!!

All fisherman be warned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so many i gotta believe its a compliment.

seriously had a friend last year they amputated his arm from touching the water in Eagle.
Even if you dont believe that....ask your self this....Calgary has over a million people....no fishery could survive..simple facts.

Take Stang's expert advice....STAY AWAY.....if no other reason than if you go the toxicity of the lake will give you festering boils on your bum

Judging by all the negative comments posted I'd say this lake has to be the greatest fishery in possibly the world.
