They signed him to a pretty hefty contract...I'm sure that was a part of the deal...even if Calgary matched it I think Stone would have chosen Vegas.

I was wondering about that as well. Perhaps he doesn't like his brother? LOL
For sure the extension was a major part of the deal that Ottawa had no say in.

I don't think Ottawa had much choice. I also don't think Ottawa did to bad, guess we'll see.

I expect it went like this:

Treliving: "We'll offer Kylington, Dube, and our 1st for Stone if he'll resign in Calgary".
Stone: "I won't resign in Calgary".
Treliving: "We'll offer our 1st".
McPhee: "We'll offer an A+ prospect and a 2nd. Calgary's 1st is probably going to be 30th overall, so ours is a better deal".
Dorian: "Okay, sounds good".

Would be sweet to lock up 1st sooner than later and rest up some bodies before the big dance starts, as it will hopefully be a long haul.

I think this will drag out till the last couple games. The game against SJ i think will decide. But we need to finish first if we want to come out of the first round

I don't think so. We can beat Vegas, especially if MAF is out. It will obviously be harder than if we are playing Arizona or the Wild, but it can be done.

Color me surprised, Rittich is starting tonight.

I was almost certain Peters would call Smith.

Agreed. We are being given a golden opportunity here. Relatively easy schedule, ahead with a game in hand, majority of remaining games at home, Sharks on a 3 game losing skid with a slightly more difficult schedule, and injuries to Pavelski and Karlsson.

I'm happily surprised by that too.....but I wouldn't be taking Columbus lightly, they are in the second wildcard spot with Montreal breathing down their necks, they are going to come out playing desperate for the two points as well. The Flames need to approach this as another 'must win for home ice' game.....

I am thinking we are seeing signs that BSD is our guy for the playoffs. Mind you, one step backwards and that will allow Smith the chance again.

Interesting way they set these guys up to compete.

It reminds me of how Hartley ran the goalies...you win, you play. You lose, you watch. That's a helluva motivator for a competitor.

I prefer it to the 'Hey, let's play Smith until he lets in 6 goals on eleven shots, than throw Dave in for the loss.....' system.

For the Public Record, bessiedog has, as always, made good on the season wager. He is an honorable gent, and good people. My favorite Oilers fan all the way, and a credit to the fan base.

Some day, we are gonna have a real BOA in the playoffs, and I'm buying the first two rounds. Crown and a cola even!

Wooohooooo!

Love it, two posts by Columbus, Flames come down and almost score at will with less than 10 seconds to go. Backbreaker indeed!
