Default Questions

Went out for my first time on fri/sat with a couple guys I know from work, we were mostly in the crown area near mayerthorpe off hwy 647 I believe. Lots of does and fawns over the 2 days, but zero bucks. We were mainly mobile in the vehicle which I didn't really like. How does everyone compare driving/walking/blind set up etc? Just curious as this is my first year. Also, what is the area around wolf lake road like?

Thanks

Don't know your area, however, driving around in the truck all day, where there is much pressure at all, is relatively unproductive.

If you are after whitetails, sitting in a tree stand or ground blind (depending on location choice) will almost always be more successful than walking around.

Be sitting at least 1/2 hour before legal light, be sitting at least 2 hours before sundown. If you can stay sitting for every minute between sun up and sun down, even better!

Depending on where you hunt, you may see more animals when driving, but IMO it rarely results in a descent shot (running at unknown distance). For whitetails, sitting in a blind or stand has always worked the best for me.

I find it usually works better when I am sitting and they are moving, rather that the other way around. Still hunting can work well to, and I have got a few deer this way, but I have a problem going slow enough to be real effective at it.
