Default Kootenay lake fishing reports?

Heading out to kootenay lake for a few days. Just wondering if anyone has caught any decent fish this winter? I have heard that way down south is better than near Balfour these days. Plus it's been a mild winter so the fish may not be acting typically for this time of year. I have fished Kootenay every year at least once but any info would help me out. If I can help you out, let me know.

Well I went out for two days and had a hit in the first ten minutes. After that it was extremely slow. Only one bull and two rainbows to the boat. All small and not much fight in them. Hopefully things pick up this spring.

We were there a couple weeks ago and fishing was typical winter fishing. Rainbows to 3lbs caught on the surface with hair and bulls down 150ft on downrigger.

Don't want to hijack the thread, but anybody have any experience with fishing guides on the lake? I'm staying in Kaslo for 2 weeks and intend on doing a lot of fishing, but not sure if my 12ft aluminum will do the job.

I agree Mike at split shot is the best. I have used him numerous times. the fishing on Kootenay has collapsed and the big Gerrards are very few these days. good luck !
