Default Best Fishfinder for a 14ft Aluminum?

Hey Guys
I run a 14ft aluminum with a 20hp in the summer. Right now I have the Hummingbird Fish Finder that is self contained in a pole. However it's getting really annoying to always have to lift it before moving. I don't need anything fancy, just mainly depth and fish and only a slower speeds. What would you recommend?

If that is all you are after and do not worry about colour or speed, but you shoulde go with a built in gps .not only can you mark spots but it will also let you control your trolling speed.

Should be able to find one for no more than 250-300 matters not at an entry level wether you go with lowrance or hummingbird, both good units.

The Garmin is a good choice however, my personal preference be the Lowrance. Had a' 14' Jon (Semi-V hull) and Lowrance was by far the better of the two other brands I had to work with 3

My suggestion would be to use an ice fishing setup that gives you a portable power source for the sonar unit as well as a base to set it on and work with. The other bonus is you now have a portable sonar unit you can use for ice fishing!

I'd suggest the Lowrance Hook 4 or Hook 5. Another great option if you can track one down used would be a Gen2 HDS5.

The easiest way to mount a transducer is to use a suction cup mount. They're actually very effective and yet still completely portable.

I have a Garmin 160C which is a great unit for the price if you can find one.

Have a look here at some recommended units:

I installed a cheap sonar on my first boat. When i sold the boat i kept the sonar. It gathered dust for several years until i bought my 12'er for trailering with the quad. I bolted the unit mount to the top of a group 27 battery box, use a group 24 battery with it and it has enough room inside to store all the extra cables and suction cup transducer mount. The next phase of this will be downsizing the battery.

The portable Hummingbird is a bit annoying, I have the same one with the color screen, I used it last year and thought it was pretty awesome. Aside from the batteries dying quicker than I would like and having to pull it out of the water to move faster than trolling speed. But i thought it was accurate as far as depth and water temp goes and honestly those are the most important factors. The actual "fish" finders are often inaccurate and register things other than fish all the time. Bang for your buck, I keep the Hummingbird.

Except I found the sucktion cup not to work very well an went with a titelok clamp http://www.titelok.com/product-p/trd-5hs798.htm and transducer bracket http://www.titelok.com/product-p/trdb-5709.htm

This also then works great for ice fishing as well so no need for an extra ice ducer.

I just use this with the small bird 383 C I got at Costco. Got the portable hummingbird bag for it and now use it summer and winter.

I also have titelok high speed mount and bracket.

And the Sully Transducer LCR mount.

I think Titelok will be better for higher speed.

Use on my cartopper(12')
