While out on the rose creek road in 330 I came across an I phone. Would like to get it back to its owner. You need to be able name 2 of the contacts with the initials A.S and R.F. This way I know it's going to its rightful owner.

Good on you for looking for the owner.
The owner probably reported it lost or stolen, check the network settings for the phone provider (rogers, telus, bell), give them a call. I'm sure they can track the owner for you.

Smart! I would have tried to call "Mom" or "Home" or "Work" or something like that, but I wouldn't have thought about the Facebook status...

Pull the sim card and phone the cell provider and give them the number and they can get in touch with the owner.

Well I went to bell but they said they couldn't help me. I can't get into the phone as the screen is all cracked from being run over. The only reason I know 2 of the contacts is there are a couple of texts on screen.

Go into the iTunes app then the music tab the persons email address will be right at the bottom of the page then send them an email
You can also contact apple, if they registered for the apple protection plan they will have the info, apple would have a better chance at tracking then a service provider, you can also see on facebook if the persons address/home phone is listed. And you could go into the photo roll, then places and If you see an Adress with an accumulation of photos you could take it their,
If iCloud is not enabled enable it so the owner can track the phone with the find my iPhone app.

Most people will have their email linked to their phone and another device. Emailing them will always work too.

What could the police do? Privacy laws prevent them from gaining accessTo required info

At the very best they would make the phone dissapear
They'll just hold it until no one claims it, then give it back to you

Technically it is illegal for a police officer to go through a persons belongings without probable cause for suspicion, permission from the owner, or a warrant. That includes c/o/p's peace officers and rcmp

ROFL...the cops aren't going to waste 30 seconds on some found, broken, cell phone. The owner has probably already replaced the phone. If the provider can't be bothered, I'd just throw it away.

Not to mention locked. But if the phone is still receiving texts, it is still in service. Best you can do is wait for an incoming phone call and answer it and let them know the phone has been found. Otherwise, drop it off to apple and let them deal with it, or remove the sim card and find out the carrier and have them contact the owner, or toss it out.
