Depends what kind of budget you have.
I use a lot of pflueger presidents and trions.
Nothing wrong with the stradics except the price is out of my budget.
I have been running some of my presidents for 8 years or so and never had a problems with them. The trions are about 3 years old and no issues with them either.

Depends what your budget and usage is.
like others have said for a jigging rod with no budget the Shimano Stadic ci4+ is tough to beat in the 1000 size. The 4+ is much better than the 4 as it has x ship which makes a large difference in that reel. Though not sure 4's are readily available any more as they were discontinued 2 years ago now.
For bottom bouncing etc the Stradic's are good.
Again like others have said presidents have always been very good value if money is tighter.
For trolling I like line counter reels.

Pflueger president reel is perfect for walleyes. Also easy on your wallets.
Also Abu carcia has some good reels to think off. I am not a fan of quantums and shimanos.

At that budget point, no question, Shimano CI4+ 1000 or 3000. For a multipurpose reel you can jig, cast and bottom bounce with, I'd go with the 3000. The best reel in that price range, and probably at any price range.
To save a few dollars, keep an eye out for the Shimano Stradic FJ, the white one. The new Stradic model came out this spring and there are some amazing deals to be had on a top quality reel that will last you a lifetime.
In my opinion, the best bang for your buck in any spinning reel is the Shimano Symetre. It has the X Ship and most of the high end components found on the Stradics for around $120. You won't find a better reel in that price range, and you'll end up buying and throwing out 2-3 cheaper reels over the same time the Symetre will last.

Walleye guy's, what spinning reel should I get.
Phleuger or Abu Garcia. For jigging I really like using a bait caster. Set your backlash right and go. Load it up with 8 lb Flourocarbon. I have a 26 year old Shimano Bantam Bait caster my father in law bought me. ($100 US) was allot of money back then and it still works flawless. Drag is smooth and is still one of my go to reels.

Shimano spirex with the rear drag.
Really good reels, and not too expensive really. Also has the 2 handles for convenience.

If those Sustains are $300 CDN, that's a GREAT price. They were $460 CDN at the Fishin' Hole booth at the Calgary boat show. I'm guessing that's $300 USD.
The price on those Stradic FJs is hard to beat.
The body of the 3000 size reel in the Shimano lineup is identical in size to 2500, the only difference is the 3000 has a larger spool. Go with the 3000!

I have 6 Stradic FJ's. Every time I see them go on sale for a good price ~ 150.00, I usually grab 1 or 2. I know lots of guys that run Quantum's that seem to really like them.

I haven't seen them, but it's the 5000 that is on for $299 canadian. I think the 5000 is probably too large for walleye though.

Yeah. 5000 size is limited to a saltwater application in my opinion, way too big for any kind of AB fishing.
Too bad, that's an amazing price.

I am a fan of Abu Garcia reels at that price point. They have the best drag systems and are silky smooth. For products from $100-$300 Abu Garcia gets my vote.
I also like the Shimano gear from the mid to higher price points. Anything over $200 you will be happy with.
You can't go wrong with either.
I would definitely advise against Quantum and Rapala reels as they may "look cool" - but are complete garbage. I have tried more than a few and have been consistently disappointed with bails binding, jerky drag, slop in the gears .....

I have and use varying Quantum reels and have never had an issue with any of them. Silky smooth operation combined with titanium bails and awesome drags makes for one heck of a reel.
I have 3 Tour Edition and one very well used and abused Catalyst PTi in my boat. The Catalyst has caught more fish than I care to think about in its 12 years in my possession. Bounced around the bottom of the boat from Alberta to Ontario and back numerous times and has never ever ever failed. Think I may have spoiled it twice by cleaning and greasing it. Takes a lickin and keeps on tickin!

The new President & President Limited Edition is a deadly reel for the price, you will not find another reel with equivalent features for the same price of a President.

Amy of these have extra spools with them. Saw the shimano doesn't. Not a deal breaker but if I'm dropping 3 brown bills on a reel it'd be nice to have.

I order them direct they are much cheaper that way. I have done this for both my phlugers and shimano's. I usually get 2-3 extra spools for each. That way no matter what species I am going after I have the right weight/kind of line ready with just a quick change of the spool.
