Default solo to Utik - what a morning!!

So I had no one to fish with, and having the day off work, I left dark and early to go fish Utikima Lake by myself.

Got on the lake as the sky was just starting to get pink. - 11 and a chilly wind, I was so pumped and ready to get some fish.

First spot. Nothing. Not a bite. Fished it about 40 min. Second spot. Nothing. Fished it about 20 min.

Moved to a completely different area, and landed this smallish pike right away.

Two more pike in about an hour. "Well, this is a bust" was my thought.

Moved to a fourth spot and fished about an hour, again with just two more average 2 - 4 lb pike.

It was now 10:30, and with only 5 pike I was beginning to get discouraged. But I liked the third spot I was in, had about 12 feet of water, and I just had a good feeling about going back there. So I did.

BAM! Within 30 seconds of dropping a line I had a decent pike!

Two minutes later, another fish on, this time a pretty nice walter!

Then another good hit. I knew THIS fish was a good one, we went back and forth to the hole at least 5 different times before I finally caught a glimpse of her.

After I landed her, I weighed her ( 11.2 lbs ) took a pic and released her all in under a minute. I must admit - I am SO disappointed that I cut her tail off in the pic, but I was really wanting to get her back as soon as I could. But when you are solo and things happen fast I never got a good chance to review the picture. Oh well, a beauty of a gator anyways!

After that it was pretty consistent until about 12:30 - I landed about 12 - 15 pike all in the 4 - 7 lb range.

Just had myself a FANTASTIC morning on the ice - so happy I decided to go

Congrats on a great day on the ice. Sometimes it's great to just get out there on your own. Those were some nice fish, esp. that monster pike.

Yep! Completely spur of the moment. Got up at 5 am and on the road, was so happy to get out there for some "me" time with some fishes......

I knew that pike was something a little more than average when I started losing line fast!

Its a rush trying to do everything solo on a good fish, a little stressful, but very satisfying
