Exclamation Regina police chief says many questions still unanswered about federal gun buyback

Regina police chief says many questions still unanswered about federal gun buyback

By around this time next year, the Canadian government plans to be implementing its ban on all assault-style firearms.

In order to get those guns off the streets, the government wants to buy the weapons back from their owners.

Currently, there is an amnesty period in place until Oct. 30, 2023.

An amnesty period is designed to protect individuals and businesses who, at the time the prohibition came into force, were in lawful possession of a newly prohibited firearm from criminal liability while they take steps to comply with the law.

Regina Police Service Chief Evan Bray is helping chair a firearms committee with the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police.

Speaking to Gormley on Wednesday, Bray said it was unlikely the feds will be able to get everything in place to buy back the guns by Oct. 30 next year.

“I was just informed on a call the other day that it is (more like) 2,000 styles of firearms that are going to be included in this ban. That in and of itself gets very complicated because you’re looking at characteristics of the firearms,” Bray said.

“I think it’s very safe to say we’re a long ways from rolling this out. I know they say they want to have this wrapped up by the end of October 2023, (but) I just don’t see that happening. They still don’t really have a plan about how this is going to roll out.”

It's almost like it would just be easier, cheaper, ethical and completely reasonable, to allow law abiding gun owners to keep their legally acquired firearms.

It’s not surprising that they are along way from rolling it out because they are Liberals and everyone knows they don’t follow through on anything they say. I’d be surprised if they arent still talking about it in 2025.

Although they have been fairly prompt when enacting any policy that has been promoted by the WEF.

Dont forget to remind your antigun friends that they will be paying for the buyback as well, and that just isnt fair.

Exactly, unlike relatives, we get to choose our friends.

As to the asinine buyback, of course they have no plan, other than using this nonsense to try and buy votes from the truly clueless. They can't even get PALs renewed in a reasonable time frame, how are they going to handle this in addition?

Oh they certainly can get PALS renewed as fast as they want. They are just messing with gun owners, dragging their asses making everything as frustrating as possible to hinder, throw roadblocks and force people to jump thru hoops in hopes of making legal ownership and use of legal firearms as inconvenient as possible without actually outright denying their legal right to own and use them.

But they won't admit that, so they have to keep telling the public that their system is overwhelmed, and if that was actually true, there is no way that they could handle the buyback, in addition to issuing and renewing PALs.
