We go light, with just a few 20 litre pails.
One bait had a pail of freshly popped popcorn, in fact we quad in the generator and hot air popper, ha.
The other bait has all KFC scraps.
Will have them set out next week, and will be posting them, trail cam monitoring, most of the next 6 weeks.

Default Bait

We used to use dead stuff, meat scraps from previous years deer season and pork butchering, sealed in drums and left out for the winter then in the spring left in the sun to cook, used to break in the new guides let them put the holes in the drums see if they can do it without losing their lunch these things get right nasty. Over the past few years we went to a mix of oats, sugar, and used cooking oil. We use an old gas auger to mix in 20 gal drums. The oats are lighter and easier to pack in and they do attract lots of little forest critters the one thing oats doesnt attract is Wolverine, we find if one of these nasty weasels takes over a bait the bear tend to leave them alone.

We are using 30 pound blocks of liquorice and 50 pound bags of blueberry pie filling that we bought from a forum member,You can smell the liquorice from 50 yards away, meat scraps, beavers. So far they are hitting the sweets, and just starting to hit the beavers and meat scraps. time to reload with the candy.

I don't know if anybody knows Wes Young, famous guide from Ft. Mac Welder as well. Lived in the trailer court there. Anyway, Wes welded up a bunch of drums of bear bait and stored them in his yard. Management made him move them, cause the bears were coming right into the trailer court. Always figured that was a good comment on their sense of smell.

just got them out sunday! we use 55gal drum filled with oats, cracked corn, dog food (dry). i 20lb bag cat food on ground. 20L pail mollassis and juice mix. stir it all up, 25gal drum table scraps and another 20L of mollassis and jellow mix. 25 gal drum of popcorn and old burnt hony from bee farm, tied up about 8ft in tree. 20L pail of really old canned salmon from 6 years ago tied up 10ft in tree. 5 beavers in steel cage, 3 beavers drug all over then tied up in tree. did a hony burn with all the old bees wax and old hony from bee farm about 10L burned. and for the real stink we collected all the sucker fish, ling cod guts, pike guts, perch, and trout guts all fall and winter, ended up filling a 55gal drum 3/4full, it is all frozen but in a week or so should really start to smell. hopefully no grizz show up this year!!
