African Mounts
When having animals mounted in Africa and shipped home does a person still require a clearing agent on the canadian side? Thanks For your help.

you can do it yourself, but having hunted overseas once I use Talon Distributing out of Edmonton. They were great to deal with. They actually delivered right to the door here in Lacombe

Rottie, if you don't mind me asking. What was the approximate cost of getting the mounts back from Africa. I've got a friend who had 13 animals done in Namibia last year and it was about $8000 for the shipping/importing once the smoke cleared. He still calculated it was less than getting it done here and the quality is as good as here. I'm heading over to SA in under a month and still doing my research into the taxidermy.
Thanks
RJ

For shipping I used Zingala forwarders. They charged about $4800, to ship my crate. The crate was large, 8' x 8' x 4', so I paid by volume, referred to as "volumetric weight". And not the actual weight of the crate.
I would never use Zingela again. Safari Cargo would be my choice now.
And I would definatly use Talon if you're in the Edmonton area.

I was in SA about 1.5 years ago and got 9 animals.
Estelle Nel was the taxidermist and they did a great job.
The trophies were then sent to Safari Cargo Systems to be shipped. It was about $7500 to get them to Calgary and to clear customs. It was cheaper to have it fly into Calgary than to have it ship/clear in Edmonton.
I used PF Collins to help clear.

I quickly check that splitting image taxidermy website, they got a video of their shop there... nice website, nice talk too, and you say nice work.
Well, all I saw was a line of black workers doing all the mounts.
at least here , the workers get to do the ground up works and THE Taxidermist put the animal together.
only that part is a bit scary for me.

I used SBS logistics out of S.A. to ship 9 animals all shoulder mounts, including a Cape Buffalo shoulder mount for $2500 to Edmonton. Talon took care of things on this end and it cost me a $1000 total including the shipping to Grande Prairie. This was in last summer (2014)
My total for Taxidermy and shipping was under $8000 all in and the work looks awesome.
