Default Alberta fish species you have landed

Over on the hunting forum is a thread about big game you can take in Alberta. Thought it may be interesting to do something similar here with fish. What all have you caught from this list.

Mountain Whitfish
Lake Whitefish
Tullibee(Cisco)
Arctic Grayling
Goldeye
Mooneye
Walleye
Sauger
Yellow Perch
Northern Pike
Lake Sturgeon
Burbot
Rainbow Trout
Brown Trout
Cutthroat Trout
Golden Trout
Bull Trout
Lake Trout
Brook Trout

19 in all (Mooneye and Tullibee are not often "targeted" but are included in the Catch Limits section of the guide to fishing regs so I included them here)

I have never caught a lake trout, Golden trout, Mooneye or Lake Sturgeon. All the rest I've taken.

You haven't fished until you hook a lake chub on the fly....

I caught a chub last year in the Athabasca River on a jig. Must admit that it came as a bit of a surprise. I bet they'd be a blast on light fly gear. Where do you normally fish for them Remi??

Hey sheep you can fish for chub's in the spring/summer right in Edmonton in sections of blackmud creek, they are fun on the fly and you can catch a ton.I always find them hanging in pool's.You also run into small pike in that creek that are fun on a fly.I believe the chubs in that creek are flathead chub's and they do get large, for a chub that is.

........I was really just kidding around, lake chub are tiny little fish that don't get any bigger than a few inches (but you knew that right?). Flathead chub might push 10 or 12" though.

The LKCH I caught was about 2" long and when I set the hook (thinking it was a CTTR) I launched the poor critter about 20 feet out of Willow Creek. Took me a while to find him to chuck him back.

^Chub's are a small fish not often targeted, they make a big part of the food base for the N.saskatchewan river basin. They dont get huge,10'' is a monster...They are fun to flyfish for though and are prolific,so once you locate them in creek's you get hour's of fun.The species in the Blackmud creek are the Flathead chub and Lake chub.Once the creek's settle down with the melt and start to clear up you should head out and try, there good for practicing, especially for new fly fisherman.

Ok thanks guys. I really thought you were trying to pull the wool over my eyes.

Sheep - Which lake did you catch your Golden's in? If I remeber correctly there is only 6 bodies of water in Alberta with Goldens. I tried fishing for them in California last June but never caught any.

Do the flathead chub go by any other name? The reason I'm asking is many years ago went fishing the Oldman River by highway #36 and there is a little creek or irrigation overflow flowing in and we caught fish that looked like the flathead chub. We brought some back to Taber and we were told what we had caught, if I remember correctly, was skipjack.

Thats the local name for them geezer, some guys call mooneye that as well.
In Alberta i've angled

Rainbows
Cutts
Bulls
Browns
Brooks
Lakers
Mountain Whites
Lake Whites
Pike
Walleye
Pumpkinseed Sunfish
Longnose Suckers
White Suckers
Mountain Suckers
Lake Chub
Flathead Chub
Mooneye
Goldeye
Yellow Perch
Few other minnow species :b

Missing goldens, grayling, sturgeon, sauger, burbot and tulibee
Have had grayling to shore but not landed, weather has prevented me from goldens, sturgeon sauger and tulibee i have not targeted, and burbot have been elusive even when i try.
I believe i have also landed redhorse (can't remember) and i've been trying to get a quillback for quite a while. I hope to knock off a few more species this summer.

Default Sculpin

I am surprized no one has mentioned a spoonhead sculpin. Who didn't grow up fishing creeks in the west and not take the odd spoonhead on worms when they were a kid. Tay River seemed to be full of the things.

Default Chub Flys

I know this is an old thread but what flys would you use for chub fishing in a blackmud creek?

Wouldn't the flyfishing be better on the whitemud(it's bigger deeper and connects to the nsr) and you would use San Juan worms, attractor nymphs but they should all be in small sizes and of course if u fish the whitemud bring some streamers for the pike, dry fly fishing wouldn't be productive for chub

Ya, I need to get out fishing more. Dad only went for Pike, so that is what I went for. First ever trout were last year.

I am hoping to find some Walleye this year.

Blackmud connects to the nsr.Whitemud creek drains into the river from a storm outfall.

If I can read the google map correctly the Blackmud connects to the Whitemud around 23ave and the whitemud then connects to the nsr by ft. Edmonton. Millcreek only drains into the river by a storm drain unfortunately. Where in the city did you catch the chubs. I caught one last year as the ice was melting at Emily murphy park. I just boughtsome fly gear and wouldn't mind trying it on local creek.

And my list of fish is not a long one. I am still new at this.

Rainbow trout
Brook trout
Flathead chub
Northern pike
And snagged a minnow of some sort at Chickakoo
