Default Yes, Virginia, there are trophy gophers..

This evening's casualty list included this very large rodent. Note the size of this specimen next to my boot, believe this is the largest one to have crossed my sights!

I wear 10/10.5 footwear, for reference.

Definitely Boone & Crockett caliber. Do you plan on a full mount or just a shoulder mount?

If it hits the 1 3/8" B & C threshold I would definitely go with a full body. If it scores over 2" it will be in the top 10 ever taken in North America all time

I think you shud donate it to the Gopher Museum in Torrington Ab. Anything of that magnitude belongs in a museum.

That's great idea! They would dress him up as Andre the Giant and set up a Hulk Hogan wrestling match!!

They'll just dress him up funny and put him in a diorama.

Pellet rifle ?

Standard 38gr HP out of my Savage Mk II BRJ... thinking the .300 would have been slightly more violent.

He became a protein supplement for the seagulls. Should have taken some specs though.

Pocket gopher?

The pic doesn't show the claws or mouth too well. The body is shaped like a pocket gopher.

On the other hand, I thought it was uncommon for a pocket gopher to leave its tunnel system.

I've only seen a couple of pocket gophers (trapped). The gopher in the pic sure doesn't look like a Richardson's.

Kind of like that one Winnie the Pooh episode where he gets stuck in the honey tree.

It's a Richardson, just been eating way to much of the farmers grain for too long!

Cause of death was likely heart failure initiated by significant trauma in the shoulder area.

Probably better that you took him out of the gene pool.... With a girth like that, genetics would've had monsters running rag tag all over the place, decimating the local Jack rabbit populations and possibly putting them on the endangered species list.

Never know, those kinds of monsters are the next in line to start carrying away small children.....

Way to go Yotestopper! Protecting the human race, one varmint at a time!

The reason the grand gopher was above ground in february was he was probably too big to use the tunnel systems. Or the brute was out hunting badgers.
Should have caught the gigantor gopher live and dressed it up. It woulda been worth 250.00 in a pet store in another province or country. haha.

Maybe it was a prairie dog filling up on gophers.

I shot it last summer. Wishing now I had taken some stats on that thing, it was enormous.
