Default Site C dam gets green light from BC NDP

Looks like Horgan made the call to continue with the Site C dam. I hear that the sea level around Vancouver and Victoria will rise dramatically in the short term due to the tears streaming from NDP and Green party supporters.

You would have to be nuts to cut such a huge project that is already rolling along. The ironic part is all that power BC foresaw being needed probably won't materialize since pretty much every lng project has been shelved and any new industrial investment from pulp mills/sawmills and mining will probably not happen either with the ndp and greens in power.

I'm not so sure about that ^ ... it 'assumes' the NDP & Greens will be in power in BC for a long time.

That's not likely

Great news. Frankly I'm astounded as I fully expect any NDP gov't to make the WRONG choice based on so much else they do incorrectly. Now the project can get online to be there for when better future administrations green-light other good projects. In the meantime they can quick-charge their Tesla's

Yeah, but they just had an election so that means up to 3.5 years of them. BC ndp is alittle different beast than what we got in alberta and they are held in power by the greens.

Oil resources are used for equalization payments. Hydro power is not considered a resource and is not used for equalization payments. Much like the 6,000,000 ton of coal BC ships to China each year. No carbon tax on the CO2 it produces. Maybe it is time for some tax fairness in this country.

Default Greens support NDP ... for Greenbacks of course!!!

Its been a long dry spell for the NDP and the Greens in BC.

As a Majority, they get to sit on countless Government Committees and get paid well for doing so.

This is a really good paying gig, and until the electoral fortunes turn, the NDP and Greens have to bide their time in hopes of getting that critical second term. Once re elected and having sat a second term, they are well on their way to getting an early lifetime pension.

Come on boys, you REALLY didn't think that the NDP and Green Party MLA's were in it for anyone but themselves, did you ???

Besides, its a Union Job in a Province that has very few Union jobs. The NDP has a bit of payback to make for 20 years of fruitless support while the Liberals ran the show over there.

As for the power, the real best user of the power was TAGD in Alberta's Peace district. (That's THERMALLY assisted Gravity Drainage for heavy oil that uses giant "oven rods" to melt the oil before pumping to the surface). The existing power markets are a very long way away, and the line degradation over a thousand kilometers to the existing markets means this Power that will be generated will not be cheap. With the Peace River projects all being shelved, this Power from Site C will go nowhere.

TAGD was also the idea behind building a nuclear power plant up near Peace River. Tons of heavy oil, not a lot of water, no carbon foot print because no natural gas burned to create steam in SAGD.

But alas, the Feds and NDP have done their darndest to make Alberta as poor as the rest of the Provinces. Now that they can claim VICTORY over Alberta and the Tar Sands, they are looking around at their piggy banks wondering why its so empty these days.

The only ones crying will be the Green Party Supporters.
How in the H E double hockey sticks do they (the Green Party) figure that the Government ...I mean the citizens of BC absorb $4 Billion in Debt?

The NDP will have taken a page from Gordon Campbell and his BC Liberals and every time the Libs try and make a point the NDP will remind everyone that it was the BC Liberals who started this White Elephant by pushing ahead full speed and not knowing the true costs before the first shovel was put to dirt.

Now with an estimated completion of $10 Billion and over budget by 2 Billion and change.
The spin doctors are going to be having a Hey Day over this one for sure watch out BC Liberals your going to be hearing alot of what you said about the other guys very soon.

And Andrew Green was willing to let the BC Tax payers foot the $4Billion??
Yeah right someone who knows what they are talking about...Not

Typical Politicians spending other peoples money and to H E Dobble Hockey Sticks with common sense.

There is no common sense anymore....

The Greens will prop up the NDP

Weaver is just playing politics, knowing he cannot do anything about the minister or the decision......

He true goal is to keep sucking up to *****gan for one thing....the Proportional representation vote!!

If they had it back when the election was run, the greenies would have ended up with 15 seats....

https://globalnews.ca/news/3888349/n...on-referendum/

Lots of other news stories on it.

Up here in the Peace the dam decision is mixed.....happy for the work and the support for the community of FSJ. Sad for the major loss of wildlife habitat, fisheries values and land owners land.

Now the NDP have re-approved it, lets get going on it.......but Oh wait, now it will be tied up, along with millions of tax payers $$$, fighting the Indians in court.

https://globalnews.ca/news/3909821/s...ation-lawsuit/

Going to be a Looooong road to getting this completed. Bend over and grease it up!!!

Cheers
